That sounds like it would be really interesting. You should revise and use you added knowledge to make it!

tragically i am too shy to post the contextless writing i have, and am unlikely to pick the project up again since pacific rim no longer dominates my every waking moment (as it did when i was working on this). i also don’t have the character sheets i created for everyone anymore, but i think i do remember most of them -- it was all 5e stuff, although i did do some homebrew
raleigh was a human champion/protection fighter, mako was a human homebrew martial artist with a kenshi archetype, herc and chuck were both rangers -- the former a hunter archetype and the latter a beastmaster to account for max, tendo was a half-elf wizard, but i forget what school of magic i placed him in, newt was a homebrewed tinker gnome multiclassed as a wild magic sorcerer with a couple of ranks in bard, and hermann was an elf knowledge-domain cleric for a goddess i created myself. i did not deign to classify stacker pentecost by making a character sheet for him (who could, really), but he was obviously still involved in the plot
really all this should tell you is that i was just as much of a complete dork in high school as i am now
