A letter from The Guardian
Imām Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:
“If Allah had forgiven the one who had quenched the thirst of a very thirsty dog, so what would be the case for he who quenches the thirst, feeds the hungry, and clothes the unclothed from among the Muslims?.”
['Udat as-Saabireen | 1/216]
From Habibi Funk Records:
“We have been shocked by the events this week, both the earthquake in Morocco and the floods in Libya.
In the last two days we spoke to the artists from Libya we work with, checking in that they and their family are OK and to think about wether there is anything we can do to support the rescue efforts. After speaking with Hamid El Shaeri, Ibrahim Hesnawi, Ahmed Ben Ali, and the family of Najib Alhoush, the band leader of The Free Music, we decided to put together a little EP. This release will only be available on bandcamp and for a limited time. 100% of the profits will be donated. We have done a similar release after the port explosion in Beirut which raised nearly 20.000$ for the Red Cross, hopefully we can raise a substantial amount again.
The profits will be split between International Medical Corps (internationalmedicalcorps.org) who have teams in Derna on the ground, the second half will be donated to the Red Cross (www.icrc.org) who also work in Libya both directly and through their partner organization of the Libyan Red Crescent.
If you have any questions happily send us a message. If you want to support the victims of the earthquake in Morocco there is a lot of great initiatives too such as Artists for Morocco (artistsformorocco.com) raising funds by selling prints of some great Moroccan artists.”
Just remember, Habibi Funk records ends up putting out amazing music and super cool tunes. Please throw a couple of bucks so that they can help raise money to help Libya and you end up getting some cool Libyan rock.

DERNA, Libya (AP) — Libyan authorities limited access to the flooded city of Derna on Friday to make it easier for searchers to dig through the mud and hollowed-out buildings for the more than 10,000 people still missing and presumed dead following a disaster that has already claimed more than 11,000 lives.
The staggering death toll could grow further due to the spread of waterborne diseases and shifting of explosive ordnance that was swept up when two dams collapsed early Monday and sent a wall of water gushing through the city, officials warned.

Images taken by satellite show the physical devastation from a flood that killed at least 11,300 people in the eastern Libyan city of Derna. Two dams above Derna burst early Monday under the pressure from rain dropped by a storm. The pent-up water swept blocks of low-lying downtown Derna out to the Mediterranean Sea.Many said they heard loud explosions as the dams exploded. A flood several meters (many feet) high rolled down a mountainside into the city.
Western media finally reporting on the Libyan floods
This should be reported as a constant top story, just like how they reported on Libya 12 years ago
Just when a new Saif documentary comes out, he puts a statement out about the floods
Basic gist of it:
- Lamenting what happened in 2011 - the collapse of the dams in Derna symbolises the collapse of Libya in 2011
- Haftar* and his forces told people to stay home and not evacuate (a local official previously blamed the people of Derna themselves for not evacuating)
- However, seeing the Libyan people united again is a beautiful thing
*There was an article a few years ago that said Russia had tried to get Saif and Haftar to work together. Saif refused

The Church of Ireland Bishops’ Appeal for World Aid and Development has launched a disaster appeal in response to the catastrophic flooding in Libya. The floods, which were triggered by a Mediterranean storm, were focused on the city of Derna where almost 4,000 people are known to have died and over 9,000 are missing after torrents of rain and debris swept away entire districts.
