Passando estes dias no Parque da Luz, após um bom tempo, decidi dar uma entrada rápida e fazer umas fotos, passo por uma pequena estatua, indo em direção a Estatua de Diana, uma peça meio sofrida pelo tempo, mas bela, me aproximo um pouco mais, e vejo que a placa dela sumiu... pena, mas não trágico, vou em direção ao lago principal, tiro uma foto, e de repente percebo a falta das estatuas que cercam o lago, ou melhor que cercavam o lago, perguntando a um senhor ali perto, ele me disse que elas foram jogadas dentro do lago por vândalos a noite e pelo menos algumas quebradas. Me surpreendo, ainda mais que não tinha ouvido nada sobre isto. Vou pesquisar um pouco em casa, e até onde vi, não saiu em nenhum jornal, só um blog sobre a cidade “São Paulo Antiga” fala algo sobre isto http://www.saopauloantiga.com.br/esculturas-desapareceram/#comment-40265 pena, um pouco mais de nosso patrimonio histórico que desaparece... e como dizem na internet, É por causa disto que não podemos ter coisas boas.

Parque da Luz, outro lugar que preciso voltar a fotografar quando as coisas se normalizarem, não sei se ele voltou a ser aberto como outros parques durante a semana, mas realmente preciso ver como está, e se finalmente recolocaram as estatuas que ficavam em torno do lago. A estatua que aparece nas fotos é a da Diana que não foi atacada quando os vandalos destruiram as estatuas da lagoa.

Christmas light balls are extremely popular outdoor Christmas decorations that are unique in appearance. Many times found in holiday light shows, botanical gardens, and other elegant displays, Christmas light balls are actually easy to make with just a few supplies. Based on the popularity of our How to Make Outdoor Christmas Decorations blog post, we want to offer more detailed instructions on creating Christmas light balls with our bright LED Christmas lights.

How to Make Christmas Light Balls

Required Materials

First, gather your supplies. For this project, you’ll need chicken wire, small wire cutters, a measuring tape, gloves, and our LED mini lights.

Measure the Chicken Wire

Roll out the chicken wire and measure out the dimensions. To create a spherical shape, the chicken wire must be twice as long as it is wide. We are creating a 2′ Christmas light ball, so our chicken wire was 2′ x 4′.

Cut Chicken Wire

Cut the chicken wire at the measured area. Because chicken wire can be sharp and hard to handle, gloves come in handy when manipulating the wiring.

Put Sides Together

Once the chicken wire is cut, place the two cut sides together and connect by twisting the wires around each other.

Twist Wire to Hold

As you can see in this picture, we created a bond by twisting the wire.

Create Funnel

Now you’ll have a funnel of chicken wire. This is where the shaping process begin.

Shape into Ball

Begin pushing the funnel’s sides together and twisting the wire together. Pleating as one would cloth, or folding the circle into each other, begins to create the round shape. Snip the wire with the wire cutters and twist it together to make sure it will hold.

Round into Shape

Continue to sculpt the chicken wire to make it as round as possible. Pushing in the curves and pulling on the ends helps to create a more spherical shape.

Leave Male Plug Exposed

Once the ball is completely circular, it’s time to wrap with lights. Take your first string and wrap so that the male plug is exposed. This allows for the chicken wire ball to be plugged in and to power it.

Wrap with Lights

Wrap the lights around the ball, in and out of the wire, to secure it. When one string has gone as far as it can go, plug the next string in to create end-to-end runs. For this 2′ ball, we used 3 LED light strings. Once the lights are fully wrapped around the chicken wire ball, it’s ready to be plugged in.

Christmas Light Balls

The green Christmas light ball is 2′, while the blue Christmas light ball is 4′. Create more with other color LED lights in several different sizes to create an entire garden of Christmas light balls. Then just sit back and enjoy. These Christmas light balls are amazing when lit together. Just take a look!

Gift of Lights 2013 Season

We are gearing up for another fabulous season of Gift of Lights.  Once again, we will have locations all around the country; New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Atlanta Motor Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway and Las Vegas Motor Speedway to name a few.  Dates are being set, displays are being refurbished and some new ones built, and travel plans are being finalized for the setup schedule.

What we want to know from our fans is what you want to see!!  Is there something you’ve seen in previous years that you haven’t seen recently?  Did you see pictures of a display at another park that you would like to see at a GOL near you?  Our goal every year is to make the drive-thru display an enjoyable one for all of our patrons, so we would love to accommodate some of your requests.

We will also run social media contests this year for free passes; some of which may involve your picture taking participation (hint, hint), so make sure you have your cameras and smart phones ready when you go to the show.  Go early and often so you don’t miss an opportunity at earning a free admission later in the season.

We put in a great amount of work each year to make each site run beautifully and efficiently.  As you are all aware, sometimes problems occur that are beyond our control, and we thank you for your patience when situations do arise.  Our greatest rewards come from the pictures we receive every year of your children’s (and some of your) faces when they see the finished projects.  As long as you continue to enjoy the show, we will continue to strive for bigger, better, brighter displays and animation.  Thank you for all your patronage, and we cannot wait to see what the 2013 season has in store!
