Working on layers for a Radio Demon Lightbox, got frustrated and colored it instead (for now )🤣. I love how creepy he is.
Physical box still in progress.

I was wondering if you could give any advice on making lightboxes?
I’ve been wanting to make one for an assignment but I’ve struggled with finding guides or anything on the topic. I only have the materials to do it once, so I don’t want to go into it without knowing how to make one. If you’re comfortable with it, could you please give some tips, advice or anything you found useful on the topic?
Sure thing! I always planned on making a big instructional post at some point and I probably still will but that's,, a Task. However, I do have some pieces of advice!
Make sure you plan it out in advance!! It's important to know where everything's going to be before you commit it to your actual sheets of paper. I find the best way of doing this (if you don't have a drawing light pad or anything) is holding your paper up to a window on a sunny day and lining them up to make sure everything you want to be visible will be!
Try to avoid more than 6-7 layers at maximum, at least with thicker paper I find any more layers on top of this become too dark and hard to see.
You can (or rather, can't) see in this one that there are several layers of foliage in front of the tree's base that are hidden because not enough light gets through the paper.
My preferred construction method is to space the layers of paper out by sticking a layer of foam core board around the edge of each layer before putting the next layer on. Basically, on each layer I'm making a foam core frame out of roughly 2cm wide strips, and sticking them on with double sided tape. This spaces the layers of paper out, and gives the box a solid overall form! I also use a big piece of foam core as a solid backing piece, which diffuses whatever light you put behind it!
I hope that's some helpful advice, feel free to ask more questions or DM if you're stuck on anything! I'd love to see it when you're done!

Hey everyone! I'll be attending Lightbox Expo in LA tomorrow and through the weekend. If anyone is going to be there and want to meet up, message me and let's hang out!
