The Dragonfly Proves That Tactile Switches Aren't Going Anywhere

New Deal Design's Dragonfly is here to show that tactile controls can go far and will always supply a relatable and fulfilling experience with the user. Nowadays every company is trying to hope on the voice-assisted home bandwagon, but the thought of that somehow seems a bit intrusive. Diverting from the traditional concept of switches, Dragonfly is heavily touch-sensitive using switchboards and a connected system that lets you control your lights intuitively. There's just something about a touch screen and how it works within your home and with other devices. I know some are resistive when it comes to types of technologies taking over, since everything seems to have a screen or monitor nowadays, but the possibilities are really endless when you consider technology like this and it's capacitive abilities.

The switchboards using for Dragonfly have a backlit display with multiple columns for different rooms within the house. These columns can either be 'filled with light' or you can drag it down to turn off the light, allowing the user to adjust the brightness of a room from the tip of their finger and a simple swiping motion. Each column controls the light of a different room, which is pretty cool that you can control the lighting in a room that you are no where near, especially if you notice lights in a room should have been turned off, this is an easy and quick way to take care of the problem. The animated display is supposed to make the experience of dimming your lights intuitive to the user and is more entertaining than telling Alexa to turn on or off the lights. By seeing visually that they have turned on or off the light, it really brings the experience around full circle for the user. What is a cool feature is Dragonfly can be automated to fulfill other tasks too, such as turning off all the lights when you are leaving your home! Perhaps one day in the future if I go searching for a system in Sarasota on Bee Ridge Rd or in Bradenton, FL to some lighting supply stores near me such as Franklin or Frontier I will find such an integrated lighting system for the home.
