R O O M L I G H T - One thing to be aware of when conducting room clearing in various settings, or simply moving through a building to escape a situation, is the amount of artificial or natural light pouring into the space. Scanning ahead may provide details on the light condition of the rooms waiting to be entered or crossed. Obtaining an idea of the amount of light, or the absence of light, in a particular space can allow one to determine how they will employ some techniques to give them the most tactical advantage. For instance, it may be wise to utilize some lighting source (handheld flashlight, weapon light, etc.) if, depending on the circumstance, you walk into a very dark room from an area of excess light. One may very well need to use the light to not only navigate but to identify threats, especially to allow our eyes to adjust to the new level of light. Minimal dark adaption by our eyes, as the pupil dilates, can take anywhere from mere seconds to around a minute. This adjustment time is aided if a light source is introduced during the transition of a light to dark space.
