A M M O — The selection of ammunition is an important and, often, overlooked factor in shooting. There are many items that one should carefully examine when choosing ammo to refrain from haphazardly grabbing a random box from off of the shelf. The ammo market has notably expanded and become more varied throughout the past several decades making it all the more challenging for some to discern what has changed/been modified and what is most appropriate for their needs. It is beyond vital to ensure the type of ammo one is selecting for use when on and off the range. Always seek professional advice if one is unsure what is the most suitable ammo for them. P O D S — Tripods have become more commonplace for rifle shooters of all types and for good reason. Modern day tripods are extremely durable, lightweight, and can be multi-configurable. Earlier forms of the shooting tripod weren’t as reliable since modifications may have had to be made in order for it to work within rifle usage parameters. Yet, even with newfangled improvements in the current tripod space there are still things shooters should consider before purchasing such as intended use/purpose, rifle setup, budget, etcetera. C O L D — With the kicking off of the December solstice in the northern hemisphere (or winter solstice), it not only brings about the shortest day of the year but also cooler temperatures. Therefore, if one is venturing outdoors and plans to spend an extended time at the range or somewhere else where an exposure to cold temperatures is expected then definitely plan ahead. Individual risk, and extent, of hypothermia can vary depending on a person’s medical condition(s), the surrounding environmental circumstances, exhaustion, etcetera. S E A T E D K N E E — There are a variety of ways to approach the seated position. Whatever chosen position one has elected to use depending on constraints (terrain, time, etc.), it is important to minimize the strain placed on your body. It’s possible for a position to detract from maintaining things like accuracy if you’re uncomfortable and building unnecessary tension, which can develop quickly into undue fatigue. Introduce clever techniques to improve upon that aids in removing topics of concern like exhaustion. As shown in the pic, simply using a knee to support the rifle can be extremely beneficial if one had to remain in that position for whatever reason.
