Nox wasn't sure what to get Ariadne and her brother for their birthday. He really didn't have the cash for something big- Stel and Muninn kept eating up all his funds- but he still wanted to get them something nice. Luckily, he found his whittling kit with two small blocks of Tenebraen Oak after digging around his room for something unrelated.
It took Nox a few hours; but by end of the day, he had two little carved foxes ready for tomorrow.
"Uh, happy birthday." Nox held out two palm-sized foxes, both with little red ribbons tied around their tails. "One's for you, and one's for Vergil," he explained.
feat. a gift for @stratagemichor
Ariadne didn't seem to make much of a fuss around her birthday. It was a date on her ID card, a quiet date, one that she and Vergil celebrated with Caligo at home with a family cooked meal.
She didn't know what a birthday party was. Had never been allowed one herself, nor had she been allowed to attend others due to security concerns. She couldn't miss what she didn't know. Couldn't understand what she hadn't seen herself.
So when Nox approached with not one gift, but two, she froze up.
It was a foreign concept to her. Happy birthday she understood. Cards with well wishes too. But the act of gift giving outside of her family...?
She hesitated. Carefully reaching for the offered figures — unique, and they looked to be hand-carved. The silence from her dragged on for an uncomfortably long moment. When she did speak, it was with a very, very quiet voice.
"Thank-you." she practically whispered. The pads of her fingertips brushing the smooth ridges of what she decided would be her fox. Its ribbon was tied neater and its nose looked like it was turned up a little.
There was a small smile on her face when she looked back up to Nox. "Are you sure you want me to give this to Vergil? Don't you want to see his face too? — We can find him together."
