Ariadne hesitated to look up. To meet Enok's eyes. In a way, she didn't want to hear an answer to her question — because she feared it. Just as she feared the uncertainty of her own future. She needed maps. Plans. To have some form of control.
Then there was Enok. Smiling, grinning Enok. He went with the flow. Whether it was calm waters or rapids before a waterfall.
He reached out for her like it was such a simple thing to do and he sweetly neatened her hair. She softened a little. Even more-so when he reiterated they were running. Together.
It was Ariadne's turn to search Enok's expression. Wide eyes, scared to hope and scared to fight. It felt like she was always being knocked down by something bigger than her. What if she fought back and failed..?
Therein lay the problem. She thought herself alone — because she thought she, alone, had to do something. No one else could be hurt if no one else was there to be hurt.
But Enok made her feel good about having someone at her side. It wasn't a new concept, she was a twin after all. With Vergil she felt like she had to be the protector and he allowed it. With Enok... well, she could never pull rank with him even when she tried, he'd ignore it anyway.
So, when Enok mentioned a condition, Ariadne was baited. She shuffled a little closer and listened intently. Then a half-smile twitched her lips and broke into a full-smile. "... only if you plant a row of trees for me. With pomegranates, and figs, and olives, and coconuts, and mangoes..."
There would probably be more added to the list over the years. Her eyes sparkled at the thought, she didn't think Enok could deny her wishes.
In a bolder-than-usual move, Ariadne used her power on him. Light. Playful. A push to topple him onto his back, and she immediately pillowed her head onto his chest, facing away at first, eyes closed as she listened for the steady thump of his heart. Soon she turned her head to look up at him. "You... feel like home."
It surprised her. She always thought home would be somewhere in Lucis. Though so much had happened. Vergil wanted to follow Rose, and Rose wanted to train further with her father, and her father shifted like a flame blazing across the land. Even Somnus had moved, something that never even felt like a possibility.
