we can't hate 4kids bc 4kids gave us dub kaiba.
sometimes it just hits me that like. chess qualified for the olympics. chess was supposed to go to the olympics. chess may not have competed but she was this close to being an OLYMPIAN.
it was @jack-merridork ! i feel like i might remember you ngl
oh my god i remember you vividly oh god oh god
I love watching revue starlight bc in so many ways it’s a love letter to all of the big magical girls series (sailor moon, utena, princess tutu, madoka, etc) while also being something totally unique.
One of my fav things when watching it is noticing which tropes have evolved. Like the “position zero” the winning girls say at the end of every duel. The ritual incantation/sound to signify the end of the battle isn’t new, Utena had the bells ring after each duel as well. This doesn’t start with Utena thought, but starts with Sailor Moon before it, in which all monsters have a different phrase they say when sailor moon kills them, depending on the season. Season 1 it’s “refresh!”s2 is “cleansing!” s3 is “lovely” and “love-lovely” s4 is “stage out!” And s5 is “beautiful!”
I just think it’s neat to see how we evolved from monsters saying silly shit in sailor moon to the revue girls’ “position zero!”
