guys we can’t infantilize yoichi it puts us in horrible horrible company
this guy stands up to afo from day 1 and he does it quirkless and malnourished and thinking that’s the only person who will ever care for him. and he resists him anyways! he’s got the strongest willpower of anyone in the series to do what he did for as long as he did it
yeah sure he wasn’t raised in the system so he might not have certain skills expected of someone his age but… zen was in the same boat! i can’t imagine he kept yoichi entirely in the dark over the years. his possessiveness of the guy doesn’t extend to permanent dependency, because we literally watch him give yoichi a powerful quirk. not one that could stand up to him, and it’s really more of a controlling gesture, but he took a risk (and paid for it in 2 centuries of spades, mind you). i’ve no doubt that prior to slamming him in the vault, he tried to treat him well in his own fucked up way.
it’s likely yoichi denied luxury where he could and absorbed any knowledge he was offered. there’s no way he’s illiterate by the time he dies, there’s no way he’s unaware of the political scene around him. isolated, yes, perhaps socially unaware, yes… completely stupid? no. he’s got a fully-developed moral code and sense of what’s right and wrong and was the first between him and zen to try and educate himself. when you grow up how they grew up you develop skills, one way or another. zen wasn’t always there to keep an eye on him (he had to amass his army of evil and steal quirks left and right) so i am sure yoichi taught himself things such as how to sew, cook, bandage injuries, treat illness, and so forth.
not to mention the iffy thing about him potentially being disabled due to low nourishment in the womb and his formative years. tacky take. dude’s a grown ass man and if he’d lived longer than 2mo outside of afo’s grasp, i know that fucker would’ve done some incredible shit
