HEY, HERE’S YET ANOTHER PSA about my portrayal of merrill ! as most of you may know, merrill has two different components to her personality depending on which route you go : for friendship, merrill is more prideful & believes what she’s doing is wholly right / her clan should’ve listened to her, though her rivalry route does the complete opposite. if hawke does not give the arulin’holm to her, she becomes almost completely doubtful of the actions she took, i.e. she becomes very self - deprecating, stating that she shouldn’t have been so “ignorant and foolish.” seeing as it’s impossible for me to portray her as both separately, i’ve decided to combine both : i go primarily with her friendship route, which gives her this pride in her decisions & what she’s doing, believing that her clan will one day appreciate what she’s done. however, i also play her as someone who is sorely insecure about what she’s doing & the effects her decisions have on her & those around her. a lot of this is internalized, though she will voice it around someone with whom she feels comfortable.
IN HER INQUISITION VERSE, MERRILL will voice the regrets she had in using blood magic past the original extent she had in mind, in regards to the adverse effects it had on her physical, mental, and social health, but she will openly admit that she believes she ultimately did the right thing. merrill will have completed the eluvian sometime after the inquisition arrives at skyhold whether or not she is an advisor / companion. if she completes the eluvian whilst she is at skyhold, she will study a cure for the blight for the remainder of the game’s events.
