30 days Self-reflective Questions Challenge: Day 18
List down your top 3 goals for this year.
To be honest, I was one of those types of people who loves creating goals but never commits to achieve them. Then afterwards, I will feel bad about myself for not achieving my goals. I always thought that I was useless because I could not even push myself to do something about it.
Well, I think it's normal to have unachieved goals. Because some goals take a lot of time to be done. Perhaps, the goal you set takes a lot of process, you have to do something related to the goal first before officially achieving it.
Let's say that I want to have clear skin by the end of summer. A clear skin won't just suddenly appear or be handed to you. I won't have clear skin if I just wait for it and don't do anything. I have to work for it. I have to take care of myself in order to have clear skin. That thought itself consists of a lot of process and it takes a lot of time to achieve.
We also create very unrealistic goals within a small amount of time. Well, I think it's fun to do that kind of exercise. Such as "I want to be better at hand embroidery within 2 weeks." That's awesome and possible, but if only I am patient enough and will commit to practice every single day, then I will achieve that goal.
Sometimes, we already did something to start achieving that goal, however, we are not consistent enough to work on it and not patient enough to keep doing things over and over again. I am guilty of it too, that's why I have a lot of hobbies that I am not really good at. I just know how to do it.
I have come to the thought where I hated goals because it's too frustrating. I have to do a lot of things before I can achieve it. However, now I realize that goals are beautiful. Even if you don't do anything to work on it. It's just that, you know that you have something in you that has a spark to learn something new or a potential to improve yourself. You know that you are capable of doing something.
So, if you are one of those people who want to achieve, learn how to achieve a goal. Take this advice from my personal experience. These three (3) pieces of advice had changed my life and perspective on achieving goals.
Set a realistic goal- set a goal that you could actually do even for a short time. Start with something small but can bring a positive effect and can change something inside you. Such as taking a shower everyday or Sleeping early.
Be Specific- related to the first one, be specific with what you want. Set a very specific and detailed goal. If you want to, you could also put deadlines to your goals just to measure the time you have. Instead of, "I want to learn to play an instrument," you should say, "I want to learn to play the ukulele before this month ends." This clarifies what you truly want for yourself.
Be consistent- no matter how embarrassing when someone walks into your room while working out, you continue! No matter how exhausting dancing is, you continue. No matter what the weather feels like and you are not in the mood, it's okay. Take a break. It's okay that your day didn't work out the way you wanted. Rest. But, do not get comfortable with the feeling of comfort. Get up and work!
It's tiring to commit. But remember why you started, why did you even set this goal? To whom you do it? Also remember that, include exercises to your lifestyle instead of just doing actions for the sake of this one goal. What do I mean by that? Set a system instead of a pure goal.
I have a lot of time to do something, to learn new skills and gain new knowledge. But I only give myself 3 goals this year, a very realistic one, a specific one and something I do for the sake of my own happiness and experience.
Here are my top 3 goals for this year:
Have a job experience- I want to experience doing a real job and learn new skills. I want to know my own capabilities and really feel how to be a working person.
Enter my dream University- It's finally official that I am now going to be a college student and I want to pursue entering a university where I could learn a lot and really challenge myself to cultivate my skills. (Special mention to Bulacan State University.)
Expanding my Platform- believe it or not, I've been wondering about making my own youtube channel. Not for the sake of making money, but I genuinely love making videos. I love editing, and I love writing. I think that I could express myself creatively with youtube and tumblr.
That's all it is. My goals for this year are just simple yet I know that I won't have it with just a simple snap. But it's okay, as long as we commit to our goals and don't do what we have to do. We'll be there.
I hope everyone enjoyed our topic for today! I wish you guys a very goodluck on achieving your goals!
