IT’S
LILAC TIME
Colleen Moore and Gary Cooper starred together in Lilac Time (1928), a silent film with synchronized sound. It was a romantic, war time drama that took place in France. Seven American aviators fighting for Britain in World War I are stationed in France and Moore is a French farm girl who meets the aviators and falls in love with Cooper's character. He promises to return to her when he returns from his dangerous mission. When Lilac Time had its opening in Los Angeles at the Carthay Circle Theater, on display in the lobby was the wrecked fuselage of one of the aircrafts that had been destroyed during the making of the film. The following year, Cooper would make The Virginian (1929) his first talkie film that became a major turning point in his career.
