First Look at The Wonder Years Reboot

Elisha Williams as lead Dean Williams, Dulé Hill as his father Bill Williams, Saycon Sengbloh as his mother Lillian Williams, and Laura Kariuki as Dean's older sister Kim Williams.

Don Cheadle as the narrator who recalls his experiences growing up in Montgomery, Alabama during the late-1960s.

The new Wonder Years is truly good. Very grounded, sweet, and earnest.

Elisha as Dean is very sweet, and curious, which suits the part. Definitely a great child actor.

Laura as older sister Kim has a quiet dynamism I look forward to the show exploring further.

Dulé as the strict but loving dad is… very nice (*cough* alright he’s hotter in this role than any other and it’s distracting to me ok?), but also very nice. It’s a role different from what I’ve seen him in before, and he plays in the nuances of the type of tv dad really well. He’s regularly depicted as very supportive and considerate, while still laying down the rules.

Saycon brings an elegance and warmth as Lillian, and it’s been a while since I’ve seen those qualities presented as they are. She balances the firm parental style with a gentleness and generosity that could make her one of the iconic ‘tv moms’.

There’s an ease to how the families different relationships work that has impressed me, particularly between Dulé and Saycon. The sincerity of their affection and familiarity.

Won’t go into the ‘friends’ as this show is more engaged with the family, but they’re all really interesting.
