OC Kiss Week: Prompt 2 - Cold
My contribution for @ockissweek! This was fun to do! It was done in collaboration with @writingonesdreams and featuring one of her characters, set in @cirianne‘s Street Magic universe.
This was a terrible idea. A truly awful idea.
I should have listened to Casey when she warned me that there was going to be a thunderstorm today. An out of season one, certainly, but I really should have listened and not simply left the house in my thin hooded jacket.
Keeping myself occupied is probably the best way I can spend my time during the day whilst we wait for news, and/or instructions. I enjoy my walks around town at night, but more recently, I’ve developed a walk that takes me around the riverbank all the way to the outskirts of the city. I like this route, it’s quiet and lonely, and gives me breathing room. Besides, it’s nice to just watch the water flow by.
I really noticed the thunder clouds when I reached the outskirts of town - the furthest point in my journey. The sky had suddenly darkened and threatened rain. I did start to retreat, but it didn’t erase the fact that it truly was a terrible choice.
I can’t exactly stop for long either.
The thunder was deafening and the rain was merciless. It didn’t even seem to ease in, it just started at heavy and stayed there for the rest of eternity, it seems. I was sodden in minutes, my hair all stringy and clumped together, my clothes weighted down from all the water.
But I made it back to the hideout in one piece at the very least.
I threw off my sodden jacket at the radiator by the door, it’s so heavy with the rainwater, shivering in my short sleeved shirt as I did. I need a clean and dry replacement now, I’m going to come down with a cold if I don’t get dry quickly.
I sneeze loudly into my hands as I close the basement door behind me.
Actually, no, I will definitely get one. Just the severity will change from “minor annoyance” to “impeding setback”, and I’d rather avoid spreading a cold around the house when we’re all packed like sardines as it is.
No one else was in the common area, but I did hear running water from upstairs. I can only assume that someone’s in the shower.
I wrenched open the side door to the room me and Grayson share, to find him laid on the single bed listening to music through some headphones.
The moment I’m inside, he sits up and takes off the headphones, frowning at me. I don’t waste any time, I just dart for the radiator by the wall, running my hands up and down my arms, trying to generate some heat, try to stay warm.
“Lills?” he says, getting to his feet. “Where have you been, what -?”
“W-we-nt f-f-for a wa-lk. Start-started r-raining.” I stammer, just barely aware that Grayson has wrapped something over my shoulders, something warm and soft. Something that smells so familiar. His jacket.
“Didn’t you take a coat?” he asked.
My teeth are chattering so hard that I can barely respond to him. He said something else, but I can’t hear it. A few moments later, I can feel something soft yet slightly heavy on top of my head. A towel, I’m sure.
Grayson simply takes my hand and sits me down on the bed, rubbing the towel on my damp hair, trying to dry it off probably.
Within a moment I’m not shivering anymore, but I’m not particularly warm either. The jacket Grayson gave me is certainly helping though. Soft and comfortable and familiar.
“Here you go,” he returned to me, placing down a mug of hot chocolate on the bedside table. “Nice and hot for you.”
“Thanks,” I acknowledge, still wrapped up in the slightly damp towel and his jacket. “Can you sit with me?” I ask, looking up at him. He’s stood just by the dresser, probably trying to find me some dry clothes. His hair is an unkempt dark mess as usual, and I find it so dashingly attractive like that.
He looks marginally surprised at my request, but not completely. “Sure.” He says as he does, sitting so very close that I can feel his warmth radiate me, his arms wrapped around my waist, trying to share body heat. God, he’s so hot - both, in attractiveness, and actual temperature. At this moment in time, both are probably his best features.
“God, Lills, you’re freezing. And you’re still soaked, are you sure you didn’t jump in the river?”
“Would you rather I did?” I turn my head around to face him with a small smile.
“I literally just had a shower, Lil.” He says, deadpan. “I dried off. I was nice and cozy, and now you’ve ruined it.”
“Oh, well I’m *sorry*,” I smirk back at him, before cuddling closer to him, taking every bit of heat that I can do. He feels much warmer than before. Of course, I know he has a knack for manipulating temperatures, so I can presume he’s doing me a favour by being a human radiator. “What can I do for you to forgive me for such a heinous crime, Grayson?”
He moves one hand to his chin, and he makes an exaggerated “Hmmmm…”
“Well… you could give me a kiss?” he says with a wry grin that I don’t need to see to know it’s plastered all over his face. “I was all nice and warm and everything.”
I lean my head back, looking at him upside down, as the top of my head rests against his chest. “Is that it?”
“Well, your hands are like ice blocks, so a nice kiss would be appreciated,” he says. He looks strange upside down, his blue eyes shining like sapphires in the low light this room has. “Like the one before.”
I smile at him, turn to face him properly, and put my lips on his, pulling him close by tugging gently on the collar of his shirt. His mouth is as warm as the rest of him, and it feels amazing. It feels strange to be doing it behind everyone’s back like this - sneaking around and being sort of deceptive about it - but I prefer it when everyone thinks we have an innocent sort of friendship. Well, that’s exactly what we do have. Just with a few kisses here and there. And affectionate gestures.
I pull away from him first, and he playfully grabs my nose. “You’re lucky I love those kisses. Your cheeks and your lips are as cold as the rest of you.”
I feel my mouth curl into a smile, one that I hope he sees and enjoys. “You asked for it.”
“Well, if I’m gonna warm you up, I’m gonna need some more of that, Lil.”
“With pleasure, Grayson.” I whisper cheekily, melting into yet another kiss with him.
