Sirius didn't have enough money to properly gamble for any length of time, especially considering he was really no good at any of it, and he had only let himself take a pocketful with him - when it was gone, he was done. The only thing he hadn't anticipated was just how quickly that would be, but he didn't mind all that much. It proved just as fun to watch everyone else as it did to play himself, and a fair few felt generous enough after winning to keep his drink full. If he played his cards right, he'd drink all night for free, which was really even more fun than he had had playing the games themselves. And what he really needed more than a big payout was a night to blow off some steam and forget the mess he'd made of his life lately. 

A fresh martini in hand, he wandered away from the poker table, the game growing a tad boring for his taste, especially as one of the players eyed his half healed bruises suspiciously - and that's when he spotted her. "Lily!" He boomed, a ridiculously wide smile coming over his features as he pushed through the crowd, determined. "You came!" He grinned at her, close enough to pull her into a one-armed hug. He wasn't sure she would show when he'd asked, not that he'd have been able to blame her, but he was more than glad to see her. "Hope you don't have plans, because I'm stealing you for a while."

Imagine Lily Evans going after any Slytherin who attempts to belittle you.

“What is that?” Lily asked, once a piece of parchment had reached your desk. It had flown over from the left side of the Transfigurations classroom, where the Slytherins were sitting. There was hardly any crossover between the two sides, the Slytherins on one and the Gryffindors on the other.

“Nothing, ignore it, I do,” You said with a shrug, pushing it to the side of your desk to be forgotten until class was over and you could throw it in the trash. But Lily didn’t give up on things so easily. She swiped it from you when McGonagall’s back was turned and opened it to read the contents.

“Are you serious? How many of these have you been getting?” She hissed, crumpling it up. You shrugged once more, not wanting to think about the harsh words that the Slytherin bully liked to write to you. Lily tutted, and started to scratch things down on the piece of parchment which worried you slightly. She was a good girl but had one hell of a temper, especially when it came down to her friends. May God have mercy on the Slytherin’s soul.

After class, the Slytherins were usually the first ones out, not wanting to be around ‘Gryffindor scum’ for longer than they had to be. But the redhead beside you left with them, the red hem on her robes contrasting with all of the green. You hurried after her, pushing a couple people out of your way, including poor Peter Pettigrew.

“You childish toerag!” Lily’s wand was out and beneath the throat of a tall Slytherin female before all of the students were out the door. “You piece of scum, you-”

“It isn’t worth it,” You said, taking hold of her arm and tried to tug her away before she would get in trouble.

“You watch your meals for the next couple of weeks, snake!” Lily protested, allowing herself to be driven away. “Don’t you ever forget that I’m skilled in potions, you wretched-”

“Shut it before you attract Potter over here,” You said, knowing that would get her to shut her mouth, at least for a little while.
