Izzy + 13 and/or 15
13: What gets them flustered; 15: What makes them cry
Izzy is one who handles everything the world throws at her, isn’t she? She laughs and makes sharp comments and flirts as a form of attack before anyone can attack her first.
She has no trouble with the difficult decisions. She sacrifices Jace to save Alec because this is Alec’s last chance and with Jace they’ll have more time. She is ruthless, even for a Lightwood, and has that same deadly arrogance Maryse & Alec have, the gut-sure knowledge that she is right, and the world will bend if she makes it because she’s not going to move out of the way.
(They are not always right, though. No one is.)
She loses control exactly when they do, when something happens that is too soft to fight, too precious to deny, when she’s not good enough for whatever is happening before her.
She has no trouble flirting with Simon at the beginning of the series; and then he becomes a person, a tragedy, his death their fault, his life their responsibility, and we barely even see them in the same scene for awhile because now that he’s real, now that he’s earned more than her usual show, she doesn’t know what to say.
She breaks up with Meliorn via fire message, right? She faces down demons and monsters and even stands there and takes her mother’s disdain, and cannot go tell a man to his face that she’s not going to be continuing their relationship. (Their politically motivated friends with benefits relationship, even. They’ve neither of them ever made each other any promises, clearly, and it’s still too much.)
She knows how to be angry, how to be passionate. She is inherently kind, but she is only superficially nice. (Which is still nicer than Alec usually manages, but that’s a different answer entirely.) She observes and analyzes the emotions in others (and is very good at it) but she keeps herself separated from her own as much as possible. (That’s why I always dated Downworlders... we all knew it was never going to be serious.)
She sings for baby!Jace and her voice breaks; she is distraught when he tries to give her his blade, but her hands are steady when she throws it away.
She’ll cry later, when she can no longer push aside her feelings and has no idea what to do with them all when they come pouring back; until then she’ll make herself as bright as an adamas blade and fight.
