So, true story: While I was playing Ultimate Frisbee today, this girl and I both reached for and missed the frisbee, resulting in us accidentally lacing our fingers together, so that we were then holding hands. I feel like my life momentarily became a fanfiction? 

Someone needs to write this one shot.

A/N: I started following Stef for her amazing fanfic recs, reviews, and stories on fanficsunderthestairs, and I stayed because she is an absolutely wonderful friend. Alternatively titled “Unsent,” this drabble is based on her personal tumblr url: lilytojames.

Dear Stef,

Sorry for all my unsent messages. I’m admittedly awful at keeping in touch, but I’m really glad we became friends. I’ve wanted to dedicate a fanfic to you for a while now, but I just couldn’t find the right words. Thank you for everything.

Dear Potter,

Mme. Pomfrey suggested I write a letter. Without sending it.

Though, I still think a Howler would be more effective. For example: I CAN FIGHT MY OWN BATTLES, SO PLEASE KINDLY—AND BY KINDLY I MEAN YOU CAN SHOVE YOUR BROOMSTICK UP YOUR—I think you get the idea. But alas, Mme. Pomfrey nixed that idea and shooed me out the door.

She insists my weekly, unscheduled visits are a tremendous waste of her time, but I know she secretly enjoys my company. I, on the other hand, do not enjoy yours.

You just had to start another fight, didn’t you? You just had to provoke Sev my former friend—Oh, believe me, he’ll be receiving (figuratively, of course) quite a tome of complaints once I’m done with yours.

And then you had the complete audacity to ask me out! As if I would ever willingly spend more than three seconds alone with you. And I would spend those three seconds hexing you into oblivion.

I can handle the bickering and the inexplicable animosity between you and Sev our mutual acquaintance, but I refuse to accept your apparent inability to recognize your own faults. Because you may act high and mighty, but having perfectly windswept hair and natural Quidditch talent doesn’t make you a good person.

Do you want me to thank you for not calling me a Mudblood? Congrats on being a semi-decent human being. You want to fight my battles? You have no idea what they are. You have never been hated by people you love for being who you are. Don’t you dare act like you’re any better than anyone else. You’re just lucky.

And maybe I know it’s not all your fault, but maybe it’s easier if it is. Maybe it’s easier to scream about that bloody git James Potter than to admit I lost Sev one of my best mates a long time ago.

And maybe Mme. Pomfrey was right. I just needed to write a letter.

Considering neither you, nor she, nor my previous comrade, nor anyone else will ever read this, I’ll be candid. You’re a jerk. An attractive jerk, yes. But still a jerk.

Stef, I wish I believed you but you don't quit Grey's. Grey's quits you. It's literally impossible to stop watching that damn show. 

I hope to god that this is just a thing to make us mad or add drama, but it doesn't seem unlike Shonda to completely forget the past and all the shit and have Christina walk off into the sunset with Burke. I'm hoping that she'll just leave to do work at a different hospital so that she can get a Harper Avery- that's so in character. The Burke thing? So not.

an Anon recently asked me for these also. I'm at a total loss on that topic. every one i've read was creepy

Yeah, it's a difficult subject to handle. If done wrong, it can be fifty shades of uncomfortable and I've read fics that didn't do so well with it. Like I can acknowledge it's not the best AU trope, but for some reason it's a guilty pleasure? Which is why I would like recs. DON'T JUDGE ME.

(But if you ever want to try a variation of the trope, I can rec you one or two where they're both professors and I know Bee Daily did a oneshot in which James was her supervisor in Auror training.)
