The light did a thing that was pretty.

This was at the Limahuli gardens which are absolutely beautiful and show the authentic use of the land during polynasian times. Living with the land, Aloha ‘Aina.

The super nice and very knowledgeable guide told us the story, of how in the Hawaiian culture taro came to exist. Two gods came together and had a stillborn baby which they had buried in their gardens. The mother had shed many many tears and the next day where the child was buried the taro plant had grown. The gods had another child, which represents the humans who look after the first born, the taro. This shows how in Hawaiian culture the humans care for the land as their elder, respect it and treat it love family and due to all the hard work and love they put into the land, they do not go hungry and are provided with food in exchange for their love and respect.

It’s not a given, that we take from the land, it’s just a feature that, if we work hard enough we may profit from what the land gives us and we should not take or for granted.

I thought this was a good perspective on how we should see our planet.
