Dawno nie było górskich widoków, a że dzisiaj góry wyglądały szczególnie uroczo otulone mgłami to nadrabiam zaległości. posted on Instagram - https://ift.tt/31VvD2C
Polish instrument trombita. Photography: Limanowianie Folk Ensemble.
Trombita comes from a family of old instruments known throughout the Carpathian Mountains and beyond. The type presented on the photo comes from a region around small town of Limanowa in southern Poland. It’s made of two parts carved in wood, wrapped in willow bark. Its lenght reaches around 180cm in most of the cases. The longest and heaviest of those instruments require a wooden support or a help of another person who keeps its end upin the air. In the old times the local shepherds used trombity to communicate bewteen distant pastures.

‘Śmiguśnioki’ from Limanowa, Poland.
This is an old tradition still observed in some parts of Poland under different names, a part of a broader custom that might be compared to a notion of Slavic spring caroling. The ritual groups of people dressed up in symbolic clothing are walking from house to house in order to pour water on people on the Easter Monday, and they ask for small treats in return (for example pisanki - the decorated eggs). The custom is still present across whole Poland in a simplified form as the Śmigus Dyngus Day. This tradition bears traces to old Slavic customs of ritual purification for the beginning of spring where the pouring of water was originally meant to evoke fertility and ensure health for the rest of the year.
