Fuck, Hong Lu’s story is… it’s a lot. It’s horrific, but in a completely new way. It gave me the same kind of existential nightmare vibes as Love Town, but with less shock value and more… it was just really heartbreaking. And there was still a happy ending, despite it all. Hong Lu has a caring older brother who just wants to see him thrive as Hong Lu, not as Jia Baoyu. (Jia Qiu might be my favorite supporting character in all of Project Moon now.) He has a sister he cares about so much that it breaks him out of his Why Fucking Bother mentality in order to save her. He has friends who boost him up and protect him, but don’t see him as an object. Rather, they see him as a person with merits and flaws. They can read his smiles, and recognize that sometimes his smile is genuine, while other times it’s a mask.

And he has Dante. A manager who pushes him to keep being his best self, who trusts him to make his own decisions and, more importantly, trusts that Hong Lu will make the RIGHT choices. Hong Lu never had a support system before. He was completely alone, despite having immense wealth and a “loving” family. He doesn’t have to be Jia Baoyu anymore. He can be whoever he wants. And he wants to be Hong Lu of Limbus Company.

I think Hong Lu might be one of my favorites now.

But my biggest takeaway is probably Hong Lu’s takeaway as well. It is always worth trying. Even if it seems pointless, sometimes trying is all you can really do, and it’s enough. It’s better than growing complacent and sinking into the Why Fucking Bother mentality. Trying may not get you anywhere for a long time, but it’ll bring you closer to somewhere, and one day you’ll get there. Change takes time and effort.

Thoughts on your theories regarding Outis with the new Canto and the information within? I think it’s very relevant and also I definitely agree that Outis has ties with the Head. Also really love the theory that her home is I Corp, makes a lot of sense in my head and with your logic

Euryalos of the Argos unit most definitely refers to the Achaen (Greek) soldier who was brother in arms with Diomedes, and was I believe third in command of the soldiers from Argos, first in command being Diomedes and second in command being Sthenelus). He’s an incredibly minor character in the Iliad, although I believe he also does appear as one of the Argonauts (although that venture is less important since the smoke war has to do with the Trojan War and what not). I would say it makes sense for Euryalos, with the little knowledge we have of him, to be as strong as a thumb capo, given his proximity to Diomedes, who managed to wound two gods (Ares and Aphrodite)in battle, among his many other feats. While proximity alone doesn’t say much, that’s all we can really go off of, alongside his role as third-in-command of the Argos soldiers. So there’s that!!

Of course, I always appreciate Outis having time to show off her cunning intellect, and I really hope during her canto we get emphasis on that. After all , Odysseus’s downfall was betraying wisdom (keeping his name concealed from the cyclops as he sailed away) for hubris and pride (giving his full name and address to the cyclops).

I don’t believe this is new (?) but since it was mentioned again, the Index’s Will Of The City/The Prescripts and what not being called Hermes makes me wonder if Outis has any connection to the Index. The Caduceus is present (as a shadow albeit) in her base EGO, so I wonder what’s the deal with that. Fate and pre-determined destiny do play quite a role in a lot of Ancient Greek myths and what not, and the Odyssey is no exception. The prophet Tiresias shares Odysseus’s fate with him, and that fate includes returning home (so long as he doesn’t eat Helios’s cattle, which he doesn’t). Fate is something even the gods are powerless to change, and though they may prolong Odysseu’s journey again and again, he ultimately will make it home. Perhaps this means something with Outis as well.
