PSA -- Doing My Official Duties for the Day
Since most (all) of you haven't known me since way back when I was in undergraduate university, I need to preface the link I'm going to post with a bit of a story.
I don't actually know how this conversation started, but my SigO at the time and I were sitting around talking and he said to me "I wouldn't want to get scurvy. Not because of what the disease would do to me, but because I wouldn't want my mom to find out. She'd be like, 'you got something that was totally preventable if you just ate a few oranges'." And that was that.
Ever since then, since one of the symptoms of scurvy is mouth sores, whenever I or any of my friends would get any sort of mouth sore, I'd yell "Don't get scurvy!" and toss them whatever citrus fruit I had closest. Usually limes because I used them to put in pop/water/other drinks.
There's a lot more to this (like the time that I postulated "do you think if I drink this Rose's Lime Juice it will help with my impending scurvy problem?"), but I'll keep it short. Basically, this led the scurvy thing to be an ongoing joke with my friends to the point that one of them bought me a shirt that said "Scurvy Friends: Friends don't let friends get scurvy" (pictured not very well in this photo of me intentionally making weird faces).
So what am I getting at? Well, friends... today is Scurvy Awareness Day. So, as your Scurvy Friend it is my duty to inform you about this and remind you to please eat your limes today. Friends don't let friends get scurvy, after all.
Here's a link to an important PSA from our feline friends to help remind you that it's important not to get scurvy: http://www.limestrong.com/pets.htm
