Check out the shirt I made for my Franklin expedition themed birthday party! I dyed the label part with tea, did all of the text and drawings with a marker and the lead soldering is made with hot glue and a couple of colours of nail polish! It was so fun to make and the party was AMAZINGGGGG! I love my friends so much 🐋
Margaret Humphrey was a sick nurse/midwife from Stromness, Orkney Islands, Scotland, was married to teacher George Humphrey, and mother of 13 children between 1792 and 1815. She gained local fame in 1836 when she offered her house as a hospital for scurvy-stricken whalers.
24 February 1836 it was announced that the whalers Lady Jane and Viewforth were stuck in the ice in Davis Strait in winter and that some of the crew had been brought ashore due to scurvy.
Mrs Humphrey wrote to her son in 1837 explaining that she had leased the house as a hospital for 26-28 scurvy-stricken whalers in order to support herself. She also managed to nurse all the whalers back to health.
Unfortunately, not much is known about her and this case, but if you are ever in the area, feel free to drop by.
