a date with lin
lin lie x reader
A soft haze spread the moonlight around the garden. You weren’t expecting much for your date with Lin lie so you didn’t dress up too formal for the occasion. Lin has always been discrete in the relationship, but never to an extent that made you anxious and insecure. It’s just how he spoke, he was blunt and hardly provided context. He told you to make sure you weren’t doing anything this Friday, he didn’t mention what you guys were doing.
Lin also does have a history of not going above and beyond when it comes to your dates. He still attempts to put in effort, making sure the food is good, the movie is entertaining, the day is planned in some way. He’s still considerate when it comes to those things because his main objective is to make you happy. You acknowledge his efforts, always thanking him for treating you right and he appreciates the feedback.
Today, he outdid himself, you felt embarrassed when you looked at the table you were sitting at. Underneath a white wooden gazebo with an overwhelming amount of magenta trumpet vines growing along the pillars. Warm soft lit candles melt upon the cobblestone, and an unlit candle in the middle of the round table.
The chairs made out of metal with floral carving detail, both empty. Behind the gazebo is a beautiful willow tree, that’s leaves lit up when the fireflies beam alongside it. No music playing so you hear water running but faintly see it as the moon sparkles upon its reflection. You’re in awe.
The hostess extends her hand, guiding you to sit at the table, “thank you” you quietly say as you make your way over. You sit down slowly not wanting to ruin the table, a thick white sheet over it, with a satin runner in the middle to divide the space between the two. There’s one rose in a skinny glass vase at your right that’s next to the unlit candle that the hostess now sparks.
She hands you a menu and walks away. Leaving you with the scenery. Fairy lights dangling from the ceiling. “Oh my god!” You mouthed, the first instinct is to get your phone out to take pictures as you wait for Lin.
The music arrives, live music. The woman begins running her fingers through the strings of her harp. She’s at a distance where the music is faint but still heard. You start to record, the melody matches the scenery, you feel like you’re in heaven.
The first song ends, and she begins her next song, this time a man blows in his trumpet, a beautiful Chet Baker song.
In the distance coming through the same way you came is Lin. He isn’t really dressed for the occasion either so you feel relieved to know you wouldn’t be the only one. You’re smiling at him snd he blushes, “I’m sorry, I was hoping to show up before you.”
You jump up, lunging at him, wrapping your arms around his neck, “Lin! I love it!” You excitedly kiss his cheek.
“The night just started” he chuckled but wraps his arms around your waist “I missed you.”
You wait, as the two of you sway to the music, then you lift your head from his shoulder and look at him, “I missed you too.”
He takes your seat, the metal scraping the stone floor, “madame.”
As you sit, he pushes the chair closer to the table and sits across from you. You didn’t look at the menu too much, you trusted his choice. Fluffy bread and butter as gratis from the restaurant he booked. The two of you don’t say anything, he takes your hand, lazily intertwining your fingers together. You admire him, his face just shaven and you know because it leaves a certain glow. A light breeze and his aftershave fills the air that surrounds you.
He purses his lips, “so…” he blushes.
“So” you giggle and he laughs, with his other hand he hovers it over his mouth. Something he does when he’s nervous or embarrassed.
“I’m glad you like it.”
You scoff, “are you kidding, I don’t even feel like this is real right now.”
“Oh really?”
“Pinch me I must be dreaming” you joked and he laughs. He turns his head to the water, barely visible but the both of you know it’s there. He stares at the fireflies that blink in the sky and he takes in the soft jazz playing in the distance. Then his eyes trail back to you, he can’t help to feel butterflies in his stomach when he looks at you.
Under the light, it illuminates the sparkle in your eyes, and the gloss in your hair, to him you’re breathtaking. He’s glad to have made this arrangement because of the few times he’s canceled for missions and worried you when he came to you injured, you still cared for him. You always showed up for him. It’s something that is a blessing to people like him, he wants to make sure you know that.
