How can so much emotional growth happen in one episode? I loved that throughout the episode Gang-Tae was realizing that maybe his feelings are more in charge of his memories than he thought. When he stopped to consider, there were moments where his mom did show him affection independent of his brother. These memories though where hidden because he was feeling resentment towards his mom so his brain provided him with memories to support his feelings.

I can't believe it took me until the end to realize that this show was actually about the three of them all along. They really became a family and had to all be happy in order for any of them to be happy. They couldn't leave anyone behind. And then in the end it happened, they all became happy and could finally go be by themselves and omg, I actually think maybe Sang Tae was the main character all along. Oh Jung Sae is literally like the best actor ever???? When he started crying at the end, so many emotions and breakthroughs happened within me. I'm so glad theyre all happy because y'all - WE ALL DESERVE TO BE HAPPY AND IT'S OKAY TO NOT BE OKAY BUT ONE DAY WE WILL BE OKAY ENOUGH TO BE HAPPY

It's episode 11 and yes, it's still confusing. But fuck it, I've decided to embrace that confusion and ride along.

If you encountered yourself in a different dimension, and they were living a better life then you - would you kill them? Would you want to cause a different version of you harm if it meant that you could be living happier?

I'm a physicist so I've spent more time than normal thinking about parallel dimensions, but for some reason I kind of always assumed that parallel mes would have similar personalities to me - they would somehow intrinsically still be me. I'm actually very intrigued by Kim Eun-sook's idea that that's actually not the case. It's a very strong argument for nature vs. nature, there is no 'core' to us - our environment and our situation shapes who we are. So if we were to harm a version of ourselves who is different, we actually aren't harming ourselves - it's murder, it's a completely different person.

I also have a chronic illness, and would I harm a parallel dimension me to not have this illness anymore? Honestly maybe. But simply killing that version and replacing them would not erase my illness, all this to say - these replacement humans aren't getting rid of their nurture that may have caused them to be in the situation they are escaping from. This is especially relevant to Luna, what's her motivation to take Tae-Eul's life? She's an adult, does she still want the love of her dad or is she simply tired of running and hiding - she will still need an organ transplant in Republic of Korea and she doesn't actually seem to fear death all that much so why is she running?

Ah! I've been wondering how we could confirm that Tae-Eul isn't Luna and maybe it's the fear of death for herself and for others (not that we know Luna that well anyways).

Can't wait for tomorrow! Here are some useless commentary and not prose:

The ads are still so so obvious but at least it's like kind of worked in the story plot.

Lee Min-ho's acting was incredible this episode - the restrained agony in the scenes where he is seen by others, the build up to a heart wrenching breakdown. Poor Lee Gon :( The tears while ordering to kill the prisoners, a task not taken lightly. So many levels.

"Different time, not different world... " Honestly after the flashbacks to the farmlands I could understand this line, the Lee Gon that visited her was way more depressed than the one she knew.

The Prince's son is suspicious, sounds like he's from a different world.

Jangmis cheeta jacket is amazing.

Seems strange to just randomly start shooting into a store but interesting strategy.

Interesting development that the time is multiplying/getting longer but... kind of a corny/unecessary line about "one day our time will stop forever". I hope there's more motivation than that to Lee Gon's character choices.

Also, did time stop while they were in the bookstore or was that just me?

Episode 12...

New philosophical question, if you could straight up switch lives with someone and be guaranteed that your family and friends would be safe - would you? If it meant you and the love of your life could work out?

Lina's theories:

Those who have the lightning scars are the "enemies" that the yo-yo kid talks about. Not sure why he gets to decide, but maybe it's cause he's the spirit of the flute? He's ... maybe the right age.

It could also be that those with the lightning scars are those who have crossed the world with the flute in hand(or a piece of it). That's why there's so many umbrellas?

It seems to me that Lee Gon has found another way to travel between worlds so I'm not sure if he actually needs the pipe.

Lina's questions:

If Lady Noh is from ROK than how long have people been traveling between worlds? And how does this play into the whole ~ time stops for longer while traveling between worlds?

Why would the Prime Minister travel between worlds? Not sure what Lee Lim would say to her to convince her since so far her motivation truly seems to be to get power and game.

Who shot Jo Yeong and why???

Snarky Side commentary:

Lee Gon having access to the national intelligence(and kingdom of Korea being 4th gdp and having mad power) is the perfect story plot to finging Tae-Eul in such a short amount of time and being able to save her. Why the hell throw in the twist that it was actually the investigators who are chasing Luna who found her? Are they just looking at the ctv 24/7? Sigh.

"Did you know that there is an extra person in this world?" -Walderstern

I keep thinking of this art piece as I watch The King. I feel like years of watching Doctor Who and reading fantasy/sci fo books have prepared me for this drama. But what I appreciate about this drama is that it does feel like a new spin on dimensions and time travel.

I also keep thinking, how will this end? Can both worlds coexist? In the question of, what happens if there's an extra person in this world - I like that the butterfly effect isn't mentioned(tacky time travel take), it seems that in both worlds time flows at the same rate, just that people and situations differ. If the portal is closed, will time turn back and both worlds be restored - or is there something deeper? I keep thinking of the 10th doctor and how there were two worlds and the characters had to make a choice between which world and which doctor to live in. I really hope that the characters don't have to choose between true love or their families in one world.

Woo Do Hwan , I can't stop being amazed by his acting - it wouldn't be as impressive if he was just playing two extremes(but somehow still making them seem perfectly natural) but he has to play two in betweens! He has mastered basically 4 different characters. And he does those so well, he doesn't immediately switch between his character extremes when he's playing Eun Seob or Yeong, he actually acts as one trying to be the other. Whether it's accent or posture or even where in his body he leads from, this dude needs to write acting manuals.

My last random thought is, I wonder if Tae Eul and Lee Gon's love did develop organically but we missed it cause of the complicated plot. You can fall in love with someone just because you are the only two that understand the situation. This does make me question what we as an audience consider "organic" love in plots. Especially because it's not like these characters have the time to go on dates and do cutesy stuff! They have dimensions, time travel, murders and treason to deal with. So I guess they are finding plenty of times to be cute with it.

The product placement is so annoying but I guess if it means that the actors and staff are getting paid fine, but can't they make it less obvious.

Questions I have:

I'm so confused by the royal family line, someone needs to make me a chart.

What's this 2022 thing in the video that Lee Gon was looking at? Is the show actually in 2022 or did he watch footage from the future? What?? Also does this imply that Luna knows how to cross the portal?
