When I started watching skam France I thought it would be quite easy to understand French since, like Italian, it evolved from Latin and so they should have things in common but Jesus, most of the time, I never understand a single word they're saying

I never know how to pronounce Pokémon

The English version intonates it POkémon. The LatAm dub, which I grew up watching, intonates it pokéMON. The Spanish spelling rules say the tilde means it’s intonated poKÉmon.

How can I be the very best like no one ever was if I can’t even say it?

a question to french-speaking authors and translators:

if victorian holmes and watson spoke french, since then they’d tell each other ‘tu’ and ‘toi’ instead of ‘vous’? it would be easy enough if pronouns depended on christian names and last names, but i doubt it (and i’m not alone).

i translate a victorian fic so i’m interested and i need your help. any ideas?

i’m from russia but i suppose there are much more french-speaker writers here than russian-speaker ones. and i don’t know anything about other languages, but the idea is clear, isn’t it?

why would you even subtitle "bonjour" like everyone knows it means "hello"

but yeah tbh "omlette du fromage" should always be subtitled because the meaning really doesn't translate well and actually is more along the lines of "i want to engage in endless lovemaking on a bed of pure extinct dodo feathers on a private island in the seychelles and feed you truffles and stick grapes up your ass and oh yeah there's also fisting involved idk i saw it in a german dungeon porn video and it looked fun so let's try it"
