Artemis Fowl and Skulduggery Pleasant were basically the only two times my nation has been represented well in children’s/YA media without being cringe-worthy low-budget children’s TV. They were decent chunks of my childhood, both of them. 

I genuinely had hopes for this, and I just got the usual crap.
