Blixa on Krautrock
Blixa Bargeld: They (Krautrock bands) were definitely an influence on me. I moved very quickly from Pink Floyd as being the first album that I ever bought, to the German progressive rock of the time - Kraftwerk, Neu! and Can, they were the biggest influences on me. Interestingly it was not so much the Berlin faction of the time, like Tangerine Dream and the Ash Ra Tempel, In general the whole Deutschrock, or Krautrock as the English call it, was definitely the biggest influence on me. They are one generation older, the break that they needed to do was the different one that we needed to do.
-god forbid I should link to the bleeding Quietus but that’s where it came from
So the first album Blixa ever bought was Pink Floyd? I don’t know why that amuses me so much but it does. Now imagining ickle babbie Blixa getting stoned to Dark Side of the Moon, hahaha. And of course he preferred the anarchic, Stockhausen-infused Düsseldorf School to the blissed-out, intellectual, escapist Zodiak Free Arts Lab stuff going on in Berlin at the time, but we already knew that. I know he prefers Tago Mago to Ege Bamyasi which is just heresy and RONG! but I still wonder what his favourite Kraftwerk album is...
