Imagine Kipo seeing you as another parent

Kipo was a baby when her and her father arrived at the burrow. You were Lios next door neighbor and noticed he was struggling. He was a single father who mysteriously appeared begging for shelter in the burrow. He had no friends. No support. And a lot of rumors.

You don't want to intrude or insinuate he's doing a bad job as a dad so you started small. You just saw he needed some help and you wanted to lend a helping hand.

Baby supplies were hard to get in the Burrow and they never came new. This was a community so everyone reused everyone's stuff and did their best to keep it in good condition for the next family that would use it. Without connections Lio was on his own for supplying and caring for Kipo and you could see he was suffering. Thankfully you had your ways. Lio walks outside after you ring his door bell and sees you close your door with a small smile. Looking down he seems relieved seeing the basket you left him. Shifting Kipo to one arm you watch from your peephole as he grabs the gift looking happy.

It was hard for him you could tell. He was a single parent and he was treated poorly because he wasn't born in this burrow. He worker hard and was a kind mind with a lot of compassion. People could be very unkind so you thought you'd show him how nice the burrow actually was. Community ran deep down here but he was the first outsider from the surface and it left many town people uneasy. Not you though. You could tell Lio was a good man even if he was hiding something.

The basket wasn't a one time thing. It started with small favors. A home cooked meal you had left outside his door every now and then, baby clothes or formula when he needed them, and nice things every parent needs after a long hard day. Things to help destress and take some time for yourself. You never signed the gifts or said they were from you but Lio was smart and you had a feeling he knew. Your pretty sure he'd seen you leave the gifts many times but you were shy and afraid to make the first move.

Lio realised one night he hadn't actually met you yet and he decided that needed to change. So one day after grading students papers and getting Kipo to go to bed he knocks on your door.

You smile when you see Mr. Oak standing outside your house embarassed. He had the basket you'd given him and it was full of things for you. Books. Writings he'd made. Pictures of the surface. Different types of cystals that grew in the caves. It was sweet and very genuine.

"Hi. I... I just wanted to thank you." He states earnestly as he pushes the basket into your arms. The man blushes and looks at his shoes obviously not used to people or approaching them.

Smiling you hold the baskey with one hand and reach out your other hand to shake his. He smiles and you watch the tension leave his body.

"I'm (Y/N)." You state opening the door and allowing him in.

That's the start of a beautiful friendship. You don't like Lio romantically despite what many people hint at. You just do your best to help raise little Kipo and be a good friend to your neighbor.

However after months of knowing the family your shocked to learn what their actually hiding. You'd always figured he had a secret but this wasn't what you were expecting.

When Kipos hand becomes a pink paw and she bats it at you plaufully it takes everything in you TO NOT DROP THE BABY.

"LIO!!!" There's a crash in the other room as Lio runs in. Staring at him his eyes widen seeing you holding Kipo with her paw out and he begins panicking.

"I-I can explain!" He yells looking between you and Kipo. Cradling Kipo close holding her paw she gurgles at you before making a chuff sound and a loud purr.

"Please do!" You beg confused. Kipo starts crying at the yelling so you rock her cradling her close and watch as she slowly calms down. She yawns and stretching you watch her paw disappear. What the ?????

In shock and barely processing Lio takes Kipo from you and sits you down.

He quickly opens up to you and tells you all about his old burrow. He explains how his late wife Song had died. How he'd helped create Hugo with her only to abandon him to help Kipo. He elaborates telling you how everything went wrong. How they had a plan to leave but then something happened. The burrow it collapsed and he assumed Hugo was gone. And then Emilia. Oh god Emilia made your blood burn. He was true to his word and he told you everything. At least everything he knew.

He gets excited as he explains his ideals with Kipo and how he hopes she'll someday be what allows humans and mutes to live in peace together. Having a half mute, half human hybrid could be the bridge that allows humans to live on the sruface with mutes. It takes some time to adjust and it's a strange idea but you love Kipo and nothing can change your opinion on her.

Even if she is part pink jaguar. Tickling her as she sleep you smile seeing her giggle. Her tail smacks at your hand and you smile. This was still Kipo. It was still the baby you knew and loved. Half mute or not she'd kind of become your baby too.

Once you know everything Lio expects you to turn him into the mayor and get him kicked out but you promise him you'll do no such thing.

Kipo grows up with you and Lio spoiling and protecting her. But all good things must come to an end and sadly that day came when Kipo, Lio and you went rock climbing.

The rocks began shaking and looking up you watched in horror as the burrow came crashing down. Lio unhooks all of you and the last thing you remember was falling before being submerged in cold water.

You woke up and Kipo was gone. The mayor informed you where you were and what had happened. You'd hit a rock on your way down and had been in a mini coma since. It'd been a few days since you'd fallen unconcious and he explains how the burrow was destroyed. You and everyone else are now travelling to the backup burrow.

When you sae Lio he seemed confident depsite being seperated from his daughter. You soon found out why. Every night you stopped and set up camp you'd see him sneak out and when he came back he realizing you'd caught him, he told you what he'd done.

He was possibly exposing the burrow leaving clues for Kipo to find them. He was putting everyone at risk. But if you weren't hurt from your fall and could walk around better you'd be out there with him helping place the clues.

After all Kipo was your baby too.

It was a week later when you settled into your new home. Every day you worried about Kipo and every day you prayed she'd come back safely.

When Kipo came home you cried. You embraced her and her new friende welcoming them with open arms. You didn't care they were mutes you were just so glad she was home and you were so proud of her and how she kept to her beliefs despite being on the surface. She was your beautiful baby and she was okay.

Wolf, Ben, Dave, and Mandu were her family so now they were your family too. Then everything was ruined when the squawks of flamingos filled the air and the burrow began shaking as giant beaks broke through the soil.

You realized Kipo had been followed and that Hugo had come for revenge.

"KIPO HIDE!" Pushing her and her friends to saftey you run to find Lio and get him too. You weren't loosing your family again! Dust filled the air and you struggled to breath but you refused to give up. You had to find Lio.

When the dust clears and the light spills through the ceiling your in shock. You'd never seen the sky. Reaching your hand out sunlight touched you and you realized it was just as beautiful as Lio described it. Golden beams of light so soft you couldn't physcially feel them but you could see them. Incredible... Lio would love...

Lio! Snapping out of it you needed to find Lio and get deeper into the cave where it was safer. Running around avoiding flamingos and monkey's you pause when you see him.

"LIO!" Turning he stares at you in horror and you see why. A mute stood before him. He was tall and in a suit and as you got closer you realized this was Hugo. This was the mandril that Lio raised. This was Kipos brother.

But right now that didn't matter. Hugo was not the same little monkey and he had just destroyed your home.

Looking through the wreckage you see metal glinting in the light. Grabbing the weapon off the ground you sneered and charged at Hugo with the discarded axe.

"I DON'T CARE WHO YOU ARE YOU OVER SIZED MONKEY DON'T TOUCH HIM!" Slashing at the self proclaimed king of the surface you know he's hurting. You know he's in pain. You know he's lashing out because of what Lio did but right now you can only think Keep Kipo safe and Lios in danger he needs you.

The mandril laughs at you and you stiffen as you feel something wet hit your face. Your body freezes and your frozen in your current attack pose. Taking in sharp short breaths your grip on the axe tightens as you try and fight his influence. Your eyes dart around and your heart beats a million miles a minute.

You'd forgotten about Hugos powers that Lio had warned you about...

"Drop it." Hugo commands. Clenching your hands as tight as you can you feel every bone in your body burn as you defy him. Opening your eyes glaring at him, sweat pours down your face. Coming closer to you he chuckles seeming amused. He cups your face and you stare into the eyes of someone who's been betrayed.

You stare into the eyes of a lost child and you desperately want to help him, help your family but you can't say a word.

"Don't touch them! Hugo please your fights-" Lio tries to defend you. He grabs Hugos shoulder trying to pull him away but the madril pushes Lio away seeming frustrated. Tears pour down your face and you shake your head wishing you could help Lio, wishing you could help Hugo.

"IT'S SCARLEMANGE!" The mandril roars and you can hear his pain. You can feel Lios betrayal. "I haven't been called Hugo in a long time..." The mandril mumbles staring at Lio before he turns back to you. He tilts his head and hums as you look back at him.

"Drop it." He repeats but you don't. Your shaking as you clench your eyes and will yourself to hold on. You were strong. You had to be. For Lio. For Kipo.

"... Hugo...... Scarlemagne..." You correct taking care to let him know you heard him. That you understand and your sorry but you won't let him hurt Kipo or Lio. "Please let them go. Just let them go." You beg. Please...

"... How intriguing." He hums studying you. He tilts his head and you swallow terrified he's going to kill you. Terrified he'll hurt your family. "An interesting offer my dear but I'm afraid I'll have to decline. However don't fret! You'll be coming with Lio and me!" He chirps.

He gently grips the axe and lightly pulls at it. Gently taking the axe from you, your entire body goes limp from the strain of fighting his influence and you fall forwards. Scarlemagne drops the axe seeming panicked and catches you as you fall into him. Picking you up and holding you bridal style he hums beckoning his flamingo closer.

The bird bends down and he turns towards Lio as you begin to black out. "Come Lio. We have much to discuss." Laying you in the backseat careful not to hurt you, your heart drops as the last thing you hear is the flamingo cawing and Kipo calling your name as you get further and further away.

Staring at the sun darkness finally takes you and you wonder if Kipo would be alright? What did Hugo have planned? And how could you fix what Lio had done?

(Thinking of doing a Part Two. Maybe make this into a mini series. If this did continue flashbacks would be included in the future so the events that happened here could be described in more detail)

i imagine lio *relies* on his captive little darling for comfort. the poor boy has the weight of the world on his shoulders, countless *lives* at stake; he has so many expectations thrust upon him, but he's only human. his mind can be fragile, and he'll cling and sob and beg his darling to comfort him, to not leave him, to love him *because* he knows how much of a monster he's capable of being. he relies on them just as much as they rely on him. they keep him sane, he's nothing without them.

I don’t know if this is a request, but anything with Lio is always *golden*. And, for the sake of clarification, this takes place before Promare’s events, while Lio is still leading the Mad Burnish. For the tension, if nothing else.

Lio liked taking care of you. Even at the worst of times, he made it a priority to take care of you.

It was most common during his downtime, when he didn’t have anything better to do than hold you close and give you expensive scraps of lace and be so intolerably nice, whether his fondness was expressed through gifts or mumbled, sweet whispers, his sentiments often consisting of something honey-coated and rotten. It was a habit, by this point, a new hobby Lio wasn’t quite good at yet. A glove that didn’t fit, but one he tried desperately to wear casually. That was why you didn’t hate him for it. He was trying to do something kind, something considerate. Something he didn’t seem to know what wrong

That, or you just didn’t have the heart to tell him to stop. You’d tried to before, but the words always seemed to knot and fall apart when you tried to spit them out.

Even now, rain pouring down outside the shabby, abandoned shed the two of you had found shelter in, he’d insisted on being the one to start a small bonfire for light, pulling you into his side and starting to comb out your hair with his fingers as soon as Gueira and Meis had left to scavenge for supplies. He hadn’t said anything since then, either, basking in the violet glow and smiling whenever you glanced in his direction, never stopping that persistent petting. You thought about pushing his hand away, laughing and asking how he would feel if you treated him like a lap-dog, but decided against it.

It was the Post-Mission High, just the high. A bliss that came after every Burnish had a chance to unleash a wave of flames at their full potential, leaving Lio (especially Lio, it seemed) in an exhausted, affectionate mood he trusted you enough keep from hiding. He was coming down. He’d be down, soon. You just had to wait.

With a sigh, you let your head fall onto his shoulder, your knees soon pulled against your chest. You could never feel cold anymore, but it felt like you should, sometimes. Judging by the way you shivered as his nails brushed against your scalp, anyway. “Think anyone got hurt?” You asked, allowing your thoughts to trail back to the destruction. He warned you not to linger, but you couldn’t help it, not when the worried cries of civilians and sirens were still fresh in your mind. “Maybe we should choose somewhere less crowded, next time. You never know who’s going to be in a building that big.”

“The response time is slower for urban areas,” He explained, a grin a bit wider pressing into the top of your head, his fingers soon tangled in your roots. You perked up immediately, recognizing the signal. “And privately-owned houses aren’t rebuilt as quickly. Besides, you shouldn’t be worried about those things, either way. I’m the boss, right?” He paused, giving you time to nod obediently, despite the reassurance doing little to soothe your nerves. “Leave that stuff to me. But, I could take your mind off it, if you wanted me to.”

You agreed, absentmindedly, your attention still elsewhere. Lio didn’t seem to mind. His lips were on yours in the blind of an eye, regardless.

It caught you off guard, at first. His hand suddenly clamped where it’d embedded itself,  holding you in place while its twin cupped your cheek, further pinning you. Struggling was secondary, shock coming first, astonishment outweighing the betrayal. You weren’t sure what to do, awkwardly resting your hands on his chest as he nipped and licked so desperately, the gesture highlighting both your reluctance and his inexperience. Still, you were frozen, at least until a particularly brutal bite to your lower lip.

The following shove didn’t separate him from you, but it got Lio away from your mouth, his focus shifting to your neck, his skin refusing to separate from yours. He didn’t move to speak, but Lio didn’t have to. You were stuttering terribly as soon as you were able to. “I… I-I’m not really--”

“You don’t have to be.” Warm, broiling air fanned over your skin, and unconsciously, you curled into yourself. But, you hardly had enough space to breathe, much less arm yourself with more anything more defensive than a frown and a look of concern. “I’m the one in-charge, aren’t I? Let me handle this, too.”

You faltered, briefly. “But I don’t want to--”

“It’s not your fucking choice.” He wasn’t talking anymore, hissing as he leaned back, grabbing the collar of your shirt with his free hand and pulling you towards him a little too roughly. Was it because he’d started a fire recently? Was it withdrawal? Did Burnish get withdrawal? You never had. “I take care of you. You let me take care of you. You owe me this, at least.” He scoffed, shaking his head, as if you were the one at fault. “You’re always going on about how grateful you are. All I’m asking you to do is prove that.”

You didn’t give yourself time to think, ripping his hand from your hair, standing up just as Lio realized he’d done something wrong. Of course, he reached out before you could take a step, taking your hand in his and looking at you so pleadingly, his eyes alone were enough to make you hesitate. “I didn’t mean it,” He said, rushing to get the thought out. There was a tug to your arm, an external force urging you to sit back down, to think things over. “Please, I’m sorry, I just got… ahead of myself. You know I care about you, right?” He didn’t wait for a response, this time, his next pull a little more insistent. “Sit back down. I’ll make sure you’re alright, next time, I promise.”

That was what he’d said, last time. He hadn’t promised, the time before that, but ‘swearing’ wasn’t much better.

He wouldn’t keep his promise. You knew that, and yet, you kneeled against the decrepit wall, shutting your eyes and holding yourself much more rigid than you had, a few minutes ago.

Lio was calmer now, wrapping his arms around your waist and burying his head in the crook of your neck, the silence returning in full-force. You couldn’t say you didn’t prefer it, though. It was pleasent, compared to what Lio actually had to say.

He was right, in a way. Lio was a good leader, a good fighter, and that’s what you needed him to be. When you joined his cause, you hadn’t signed up for a ‘good friend’. You’d wanted to help in any way you could, and you would. You owed your fellow Burnish that.

You owed Lio that, whether or not he deserved it.

The smell of ash filled the air, but you refused to look anywhere other than his face. You didn’t want to give any signs of your despair. You had to be strong.

But your eyes betrayed you. Your emotions betrayed you. The pain in your chest bubbled up and got caught in your throat, forcing a lump to keep you from even uttering a word. Or else all your emotions would come pouring out. You’d already lost the battle with your tears which were streaming down your face. Uninterrupted, they trailed down to your chin, dropping one by one onto your shirt.

No matter how hard you tried, you could not lie to yourself. This was something inevitable, for you and everyone in the world, but it was too soon. If only you could turn back time and stop it from happening. You’d even settle with it just slowing down. All you wanted was enough time to say goodbye. Enough time to tell him everything you ever felt, but you’d lost the strength to speak through your tears.

“Hey,” a gentle voice interrupted your plummeting thoughts. “Just look at me, don’t do or think of anything else.”

You hated yourself. He shouldn’t be the one comforting you, it should be the other way around. You should be the one reassuring him everything was going to be alright. Even if you knew that wasn’t true, it was your job to lie and convince him.

“I-I…” You gritted your teeth in frustration. Why couldn’t you even get a simple word out?

“Shh, it’s okay, [ name ]. All I want you to do is embrace me, so I know I’m alive.” His words tore away your broken composure further. “I just want to feel your warmth.”

“Y-you’re going to be okay, Lio.” After struggling for a bit, you managed to get a sentence out, and even throw in a small smile.

The light in his eyes flickered like a flame, one fighting strong winds to stay alight, but he smiled back at you. “Yeah.”

You wish you could have said more, but you only managed three more words, “I love you.”

Then, the remaining light in his eyes fizzled out, and the weight of his body on your arms was gone. But you could have sworn you heard his voice say, “I love you too.”

I hope this lighten up your day! This isn’t a prompt or request unless you want to; but just imagine spending time with Song and Lio where they try to cheer you up? Just Lio playing a guitar while both him and Song sing to you or maybe working on a project together

(Been having a bad week and writing this helped. Just some good old fluff.)

You were a lab assistant in the burrow. Before Song and Lio had Hugo or Kipo they had you. You were a prodigy and a young one at that, only being a teen when Emilia assigned you to lab work. The blonde didn't care much for your mental health or if she was pushing to hard but Lio and Song did. They saw you as their own kid and because of that they were protective of you and wanted you to be healthy and happy always.

Your own parents were kind of absent so they filled the role and made sure you were always resting well and eating. Being a scientist in the burrow could take quit a toll so they did their best to make sure you didn't push yourself too hard and that Emilia put pressure on them and not you. After all you may be gifted but you were still a kid. They wanted you to have a normal teen life depsite your gifts.

Song had noticed it first. The slump of your shoulders and how you were less talkative latley were dead giveaways you were feeling something. She asked Lio what they should do and Lio being the dork he was grabbed his guitar.

"Oh (Y/N) oh (Y/N) oh (Y/N)

Why so glum? Why so sad?

Can't you smile for dear old dad?

I know lab work is hard. I know lab work is dull.

Just take a deep breath and let it go.

The labwork can wait. Can't you see?

I'd love if you laugh for dear old me."

Of course it was corny but hearing it you smiled. Song hugged you and Lio put his guitar away before rubbung your shoulders. Sighing at their kindess you watched as Hugo clapped from his space and you chuckled waving at the monkey. He made a cute sound and waved back before clapping some of his blocks together. Nodding content with the response you look at Lio and Song.

You hadn't been sleeping well. And the new member of your little family made it difficult to rest at times. Emilia was pushing for results but you didn't have any to give. Hugo was an unmutated monkey and so far the formulas you had showed no results. The new project was just stressing you out and Emilia threatening to pull you from the project was NOT helping.

"I'm okay." You state feeling happy as Lio and Song baby you. The attention was honestly nice after the lecture Emilia gave you that morning. "Just overworking I guess. Emilia's really been pushing." You admit rubbing your arm.

They nod understanding. "Well why don't we help you with the report kiddo?" Looking up at Lio smiling you nod pulling it out. As Song makes small corrections and Lio helps you write it Hugo crawls in your lap. Laughing happy to be surrounded by your family you hum.

The job may suck but you loved it. Loved them.

Imagine Being in a Polymorphous relationship with Lio and Song

~ Your a scientist in the burrow. You met Lio and Song in school but never really clicked with them. Emilia and you were close and they never got along with her. You kind of had a small crush on them but it went away as time went on and they got together. They were perfect for eachother and you doubt they wanted you...

~ Years later and your one of the top scientists in the burrow. You Song Lio and Emilia are at the top but Emilias in charge. Emilia thought they were hiding something and knowing you used to be decent friends put you on the Hugo project to spy. You think she's being paranoid but say nothing as you monitor Hugos success rate. So far no mutations or signs of intelligence that surpass normal expectations but you keep Emilia updated so she feels more secure about the project.

~ Slowly as you continue working with them you begin to fall in love with Song and Lio again. You know it's wrong and that their both married to each other and have happy lives together but you feel a pang in your heart knowing that you'll never be apart of that relationship. Lios just so kind and silly. He's very caring and you find yourself blushing when he offers to help carry something a little to heavy for you or asks to help you on your reports. And Song. Songs so strong but also gentle. The way she takes care of Hugo and is always so passionate about her work never fails to fluster you.

~ Soon you come to see Hugo as your baby. As the project continues you make jokes to yourself and Hugo about how Song Lio and you are rasing him and that makes you all a couple. He's a very sweet mandril and although he hasn't shown that he's mutated yet he's obviously a smart monkey.

~ Your feelings get more intense and one day you privately tell Hugo about it. You know he can't understand you and Song and Lio have the day off so it's just you and him. You sway him on your hip and tell him all about your feelings towards them. How strong Song is, how kind Lio is and how smart both of them are. He simply coos and you smile.

~ Later that week you notice Lio and Song being more affectionate around you. A hug that lasts a second longer than usual, Lio being very eager to help you and getting very close, Song complimenting your work. You're getting very flustered from all the attention and aren't sure how to respond.

~ Sometime that week they take you aside and admit that they have feelings for you. It's a dream come true and that night you have your first date in their house.

~ You all chat for hours about your favorite subjects as you have wine. You talk about poetry, the stars, your dreams and hopes for the future. You share your first kiss with them and your relationship slowly starts building.

~ It's been a couple months and it's an accident. You were never supposed to know that Hugo could talk but one day while your cleaning up the lab you sneeze and you hear a distinct bless you. Turning you only see Hugo. Your about to brush it off when you sneeze again and watch him say bless you. You pause. He pauses. Then he starts crying.

~ Once you calm Hugo down he explains how he's been able to talk and understand you for awhile. He told you how he told Song and Lio about the feelings you had for them. You're embarassed you blabbered on like that in front of him but he admits they've done the same thing. He asks you not to tell Song Lio or Emilia however. You want to ask him why but you pause. Emilia was... intense and Hugo was just a kid. An intelligent and very sweet kid.

"I won't tell if you don't."

He smiles and hugs your leg close. You two become closer after that.

~ You do however tell Song and Lio you know about Hugo. You don't want to start your relationship off by lying to them and you don't want Hugo to feel like he's caused a problem. You explain you won't tell Emilia. She may be your friend but they're your partners and they come first now.

~ A week later and you've moved in with them. Hugos abilities are kept a secret but your relationship isn't. Emilia isn't too happy but she accepts it's your choice and wishes you well.

~ Your relationship is sweet and caring as you all love each other and Hugo very much. It's full of late nights reading to eachother while cuddling, serenading each other, cooking together in the kitchen, brainstorming book ideas, writing reports, doing expeirments, and taking care of Hugo. It's a calm and gentle life but soon Emilia will catch on and things won't be as good as they are...

Hmm, your thoughts on Lio and Galo sharing a darling?

I waited way too long to write this… still, I’ll take any chance I can to talk about these boys. They’re dumbasses, but their caring dumbasses, and that’s all you can really ask for.

The pressure was too high.

Usually, you wouldn’t complain about a detail so small, but each drop felt like another needle being thrown at your back, playing with the idea of breaking the surface but never quite going through with it. You wondered if Lio always took showers like this. His skin was thinner than yours, and it was bordering on painful after so long. But if Lio noticed, you couldn’t tell, his arms remaining wrapped around your waist and his face buried in your shoulder, regardless of how much you shifted or complained. You’d lost track of how much time he’d spent like that, but it didn’t really matter.

Judging from the soft, guttural growl forced through his teeth every time you moved, you wouldn’t be going anywhere until Lio decided it was alright for you to go.

Luckily, you wouldn’t have to wait very long, Galo was audible from the moment he stepped through the threshold. Lio perked up as the bathroom door slammed open, colliding with the nearest wall was and making you flinch into the blonde, Lio accepting the contact gladly. He clung to you a bit tighter as the stream-coated glass slid to the side, letting a merciful breath of fresh air flow in before it closed again, the humidity growing all the more unbearable with an already-undressed Galo’s entrance.

He didn’t waste time, pulling you away from Lio and pinning you against his chest, the hug as smothering as it was crushing. Your feet were barely on the ground by the time he released you, letting you stumble on the tile floor for a moment before a strong hand planting itself on your hip as he dragged you closer than you’d ever been. You didn’t have to be told what to do, considering how affectionate Galo was on a daily basis, only closing your eyes and pecking at the corner of his mouth, pretending not to see the resulting disappointed frown. It was a useless effort, in the end, his lips pushing themselves against yours with enough force to split your lip. You couldn’t stop yourself from thinking about how he used to kiss you, how he would blush and stutter and ask so eagerly...

But, he hadn’t asked for what he wanted in a long, long time.

“Are you two done?” Lio cut in, discontent hidden by layers upon layers of neutrality. He was never the type to show it, but he'd never really been comfortable with such an expansive relationship, not unless he was the center of your attention. It was better with Galo than it was with most, seeing as the interaction hadn’t gone violent yet, but his patience wasn’t something you wanted to test.

You still had bruises from the last time you looked too content in someone else’s arms.

Galo didn’t share your concern, only letting you go and moving to his partner’s side, Lio fighting back a smile as Galo brushed unruly hair away from his face. You used to admire their dynamic, so gentle and loving and wordless, filled with kind gestures that didn’t need explanations. It’d been enough to cover up how vile both of them were, below the surface, masking Lio’s sharp edges and Galo’s hyper-fixation. Still, Galo’s chuckle was enough to make your heart beat a little faster, your eyes falling to the floor out of instinct. “He’s just a little jealous.” There was a chuckle, giving Galo time to kiss the top of Lio’s head, the gesture lingering for a bit longer than it should’ve. “He always gets huffy when I greet someone else first, dontcha? Lio’s just a big baby, when you get down to it.”

There was another huff, another glare, an elbow soon finding its way to Galo’s side as Lio stood a little straighter, crossing his arms far too defensively. “I do not. It’s just… too fucking cold to deal with any of that bullshit today,” He started, pale skin beginning to flush. “They’ve been good, too. I’m not trying to ruin that. You know how (Y/n) gets when they feel too confident.”

Galo just grinned, as if Lio’d said the most innocent thing in the world. You were beckoned closer by a tap to Lio’s shoulder, a welcoming smile, Galo’s arm wrapping around your midriff as soon as you took a step forward. “The angel hasn’t tried to get out in weeks, give them some slack!” He paused to think, opting to ignore Lio’s comments about ‘straining something’. “There should be a reward. Anything they want!”

A year ago, you might’ve been excited, A month ago, you might’ve taken the chance to say something that’d make Galo scowl and Lio get mad, but now, you just forced a smile, nodding as you leaned into his side, mumbling a quiet ‘I’ll think about it’. But, you doubted either was listening, by then.

You watched as they talked, but their words went over your head, only the occasional mentions of restraints and rare use of your name reaching your ears. You tried to ignore it, to disassociate and cuddle into Galo’s warmth and not pay attention, but you’d never been good at blocking out the details. Not as good as your captors were, anyway.

Neither of them even noticed that water had already gone cold.

Finally! I’ve been waiting to write for this excellent boy, this absolute twink, this king among men. He’s a baby and no one can take that away from him.

~He cares about you, first and foremost. Remember that now, because it’s going to get much harder to believe, later on.

~There’s no particular reason why he seems to fall so hard for you, Lio isn’t even sure himself. It might be because you’re so kind to him, always going out of your way to check on someone you shouldn’t care about, or how your smile makes him blush and stutter and try so hard to impress you. He doesn’t really understand it, but he knows he wants to keep you closer, and he’s sure he wouldn’t be able to take it if something took you away from him. He’ll be more than willing to prove that, too. 

~He does his best to let you have your own life, but... he’s clingy, to say the least. This is Lio’s first real relationship, and it shows. He doesn’t know it’s not normal to put himself between you and whoever you’re talking to when he decides they’re being too friendly, nor does he understand the difference between holding your hand and hanging from your waist, only to refuse to let go when you try to ‘playfully’ shrug him off. He’s not better behind closed doors, either, keeping you pressed against him and whining whenever you dare to move. If his behavior isn’t smothering yet, give it a week. It will be.

~If you ever bring up a habit you don’t quite care for, Lio acts like it’s the end of the world. You might just be asking him to stop glaring at your friends whenever you introduce him, but he’ll frown, pout, cross his arms and act like you’re being irrational when he’s the one throwing a tantrum. He doesn’t try to be manipulative, but he loves every single thing about you, and it’s a shock to find out that you don’t feel the same way. After your tenth ‘disagreement’, you’ll stop trying to improve his behavior. You’ll just… start avoiding other people, when he’s with you.

~While I’m on the subject, you’ll have to be a talented peacemaker. Lio has a fiery temper, and he acts suddenly, thoughtlessly, especially when it comes to you. There’ll be no warning before he launches himself at the injured civilian leaning on you for help or when Lio decides he wants to spend the rest of the day with you inside, alone, regardless of any other plans you might have. You’ll have to be his negotiator, his impulse-control, if only to keep yourself out of trouble.

~Lio’s affection isn’t any less possessive, honestly. There’ll be nails in your skin, teeth latched onto your lips, Lio forcing himself as close as he can be for something as simple as a kiss. He’s stronger than he looks, too, so pushing him away won’t be an option. Not if you value your arms, anyway.

~Despite everything, he’ll only do something drastic if he doesn’t think he has another choice. Lio doesn’t want to hold you against your will, he couldn’t do that to another person and still believe he’s justified, but… he can’t stop himself, not when you’re saying those awful things about leaving him. If it helps, he’ll do his best to make your captivity better than that of the Burnish, but he’s not a caretaker. He’s jealous, obsessive, but he never seems to manage to remember that you probably don’t want to be chained to a bedpost, even if he is there to help you along.

~You’ll be pampered, absolutely spoiled. Gifts are rare and well-earned, but the conditions you’re kept in are immaculate, the best a Burning Rescue Member can afford. Even if he has to keep you restrained, your cuffs are padded and light-weight, Lio doing his best to impress you with food and games and everything he knows you love. Nothing’s off the table, not if he thinks it’ll just make you smile again. Nothing, save for your freedom, of course.

~He does have a mean-streak, though. At the slightest hint of disrespect or a trace of anything less-than-loving, he’ll go tense, hardly even thinking before he drags you away from your nice, cozy room and into the smallest, darkest closet he can find. Hurting you is out of the question, Lio can’t stand the thought of it. But, there’s just something cathartic about hearing you sobbing for him when you don’t even know he’s listening. He’ll always seem much more confident, when he lets you out.

~Lio doesn’t mean to be cruel, he doesn’t want to be. It’s a mix of frustration and confusion and helplessness, really, with all those negative, terrible feelings simply being projected onto you. He loves you, he loves you so much, but… he’s never been great at loving people. You’ll come to know that better than most, after a while.
