The location is Denmark, hence the snow; and the red and gold is to represent royalty (but there's a gold crown if you didn't get the hint already). The whole play revolves around Hamlet's desire to kill his Uncle (and stepfather) Claudius, and in the process his love, Ophelia, commits suicide by drowning herself as an unforeseen consequence. So the sword cutting through the letter C is to represent Hamlet's main goal and the lily pads represent Ophelia's death by drowning.
