“You said you wouldn’t get involved with a coworker. We’re not anymore, so would you—”
Vivi wakes up to eight texts from Hyunjin ‘news dropped the story!’ and someone knocking at her door. She rubs asleep out of her eyes before peeling herself out of bed and padding across her room to answer.
Jungeun pushes her way inside, cheeks red from the cold weather, breathless smiling. “You did it! You guys didn’t tell us when you were going to—”
“Hi to you too,” Vivi says, accepting Jungeun’s coat and hanging it next to hers on the hooks by the door.
Jungeun blushes. “Sorry. Hi, how are you? You’re getting out of there!”
Vivi smiles. “I’m trying.”
“Does that mean I can finally do this?” Jungeun gets closer, breath ghosting over Vivi’s lips.
Vivi stumbles back, confused, “What?”
Jungeun looks caught between embarrassment and hope. “You said you wouldn’t get involved with a coworker. We’re not anymore, so would you—” she trails off.
Vivi has the faintest memory of Jungeun, several years younger, asking Vivi if she liked girls, if she could like her. She swallows. She’d thought Jungeun had only asked because she was figuring herself out. She hadn’t taken it seriously at the time, just creating an arbitrary rule to end the conversation. But years later and Jungeun’s hopeful gaze is on her again. “Okay,” she whispers.
Jungeun surges forward, hands under Vivi’s jaw to draw her into the kiss. It’s sloppy and their teeth knock together before Jungeun whispers a quick, “sorry,” and drags her in again.
And Vivi knows Jungeun has been kissing other people, because she’s practiced. Eager, sure, but Jungeun is good. She nips at Vivi’s lower lip before pressing her tongue in and Vivi can’t help her moan.
Then the backs of her knees hit the edge of her bed and she sits, trying to pull Jungeun with her. They’re not colleagues anymore, after all.
Instead, Jungeun sinks to her knees, looking up at Vivi with wide eyes. She slides her hands up Vivi’s thighs, hopeful expression on her face.
Vivi swallows heavily, tilting Jungeun's chin up gently. Any words she might be able to say are jammed in her throat. She doesn’t know how to articulate the thought in her head. No way to ask your ex-bandmate why she looks so comfortable on her knees.
She settles on, “Don’t you want to kiss me?”
Jungeun laughs. “You know I’m offering something much better.”
And that’s the thing about Jungeun—she’d fluctuate between shy and confident in ways Vivi could never understand. So she nods and cups Jungeun’s jaw as Jungeun slides her hands up Vivi’s thighs.
Jungeun hangs mistletoe and stands under it. Vivi doesn't know what mistletoe is and doesn't understand why Jungeun has been standing under the weird ceiling booger for ten minutes.
we really getting into the christmas spirit in may 😳
vivi is starting to think that there might be something wrong with jungeun. the girl has been standing in the doorway to the kitchen pretending to be on her phone for almost 10 minutes now. of course, weird behavior is normal for jungeun, but she also appears to have taped some dried seaweed to the top of the doorway. that is a little more outlandish than usual jungeun behavior.
vivi is really just minding her business, too. it’s not like she’s doing anything worth watching, she’s just warming up milk for hot chocolate. vivi’s best theory is that she has been threatened by one of the children, and is now waiting for vivi to accompany her back to the living room as protection in the form of a mom voice. the seaweed is a bit of a mystery though.
vivi just turns back to the stove and continues what she was doing - there’s no use wondering what is going on in jungeun’s mind. when she gets the hot chocolate poured into mugs and on a tray she turns to leave, expecting jungeun to follow right behind her. however, jungeun moves so that she’s blocking the doorway and stares at vivi with an expectant smile.
“vivi unnie! i didn’t see you there, what are you up to?”
vivi is pretty positive that jungeun knew she was there in the kitchen, if not watching her make the hot chocolate. so there must be something she wants.
“jungeun, you’ve been watching me for like 10 minutes, is there something you needed?” vivi tries to use her nice unnie voice, but she can tell that jungeun is freaking out anyways. the younger girl starts opening and closing her mouth like she wants to say something, but eventually gives up and points up at the seaweed on the doorframe.
“it’s a tradition.”
“jungeun that is seaweed. did you tape seaweed to the ceiling? because i know i’m not from here but i’m pretty sure that is not a tradition”
jungeun visibly winces, then appears to take a deep breath in preparation to explain her thought process.
“uh, well it’s supposed to be mistletoe, only i couldn’t find any anywhere. but they say if you stand under the mistletoe with someone you have to kiss.”
jungeun’s face was now bright red, and vivi moved to put the tray of mugs down on the table. she thinks she knows what’s going on here. it’s not like jungeun is very subtle with her crush.
“jungie, are you asking for a kiss?”
a little squeak escapes from jungeun as soon as vivi finishes her sentence, but she jerks her head yes. vivi laughs a little under her breath and looks back up at the ceiling seaweed.
“you know it’s about time, you really could have just asked.”
the older girl hardly gives jungeun time to think before she leans in and plants a quick kiss right on jungeun’s lips. she laughs again at the sight of the girl with her eyes squeezed shut and a blush from her neck to the tips of her ears. vivi just pats her cheek and leans in to get the last word in before she picks up the tray and leaves.
“if you want another kiss then you better take me on a date, jungie, no more ceiling seaweed.”
