J’avais un grand plaisir à lui faire lire Schwob qu’elle aima très sincèrement. Le jeu de miroirs remontait loin, un infini de corridors, des siècles en velours vert et cuir bleu...jusqu’à la nymphe.
Tous [les anciens] considéraient le loisir, le libre usage de son temps, ce qu'ils appelaient l'otium, comme une condition absolue de l'accomplissement humain. L'un des plus célèbres contemporains de Paul, Sénèque, dit là-dessus quelque chose d'assez mignon, c'est que si par malheur il se trouvait réduit à travailler, eh bien il n'en ferait pas un drame : il se suiciderait, voilà tout.
