rating hand tools by utility as torture instruments
screwdrivers
limited utility, because they're simply not that pointy and would require a lot of force to break the skin or do any significant damage to the more muscular areas of the body. best for eyes and POSSIBLY stabbing someone in the stomach but only if you're REALLY willing to commit. 4/10.
crescent wrench
a classic. note that your average crescent wrench isn't AS good as its bigger, badder cousin the pipe wrench, but still pretty useful for applying blunt force. you get out of it what you put in. 6/10.
pliers
doesn't offer a great variety of uses, but if you want to pull something off/out of someone, this is the tool you want. pretty much Only good for teeth, nails, and hair, but let's be real, if you're already yanking bits off of someone, does it matter that you can't stab them? 7/10
wire cutters
same drawbacks as the pliers, none of the advantages. i GUESS you could use them as like... very small scissors, but like, practically? no. 1/10
dead-blow mallet
difficult to call this one. it IS designed to impart maximal force on the thing being hit without losing energy to recoil and offers great precision, but it's also just... not that hard. best used on the more fragile parts of the body (hands & feet, maybe face) because it isn't gonna be hard enough to break any larger bones. 5/10
ball-peen hammer (pictured below)
NOW you're talking. metal head, two different shapes to hit with, and it's better than a wrench because it's SUPPOSED to be used for hitting things. loses a point for being pretty lightweight though. 9/10
claw hammer (pictured below)
sounds good but is actually a Major disappointment because the claw is just... not good for inflicting damage. want to hit someone with the pointy end with ANY amount of force? too bad, you can't, there's a fucking handle in the way! the angles just Don't Work. 0/10
rip hammer (pictured below)
kind of like a claw hammer except superior in literally every way. THIS is a hammer with a pointy bit that you can REALLY drive into a person's flesh. 20/10
chisels
depends on how well you treat your chisels tbh. pretty much nobody but hardcore woodworkers actually keeps their chisels properly sharpened. even when slightly dull, they're still pretty good for stabbing, though. 6/10
hand saw
this is the only fucking blade on this list (i crey) and it IS toothed which is always fun. aesthetically, not so great, though, yanno? unless you’re Into that whole sort of lumberjack thing, i guess. but it's still more Functional than a lot of other hand tools if you want to hurt someone so. 8/10
bonus: adjustable clamps
okay these are not TECHNICALLY "tools" but i think they deserve a mention anyway because IMAGINE. clamping someone's hand to a work table. the sheer vulnerability of it. palm-down, it would totally immobilize the hand (barring a negligible amt of horizontal finger movement), rendering them unable to do ANYTHING. palm-up, they could still curl their fingers, but not escape, which is its own kind of delicious! also the humiliation of being restrained with like... something their captor pulled out of their garage, reduced to the same level of value as a chunk of wood to be cut. unf. 100/10
