I do not have words to explain the heart clenching feeling I had, when Anne "I am always alright" Lister said ever so softly "don't hurt me" ... i can try but not even a literal essay will not be enough to explain how it felt to see the ever so brave character, the one who is seen as a force of nature itself, ever so energetic and controlling, to see her let herself seem vulnerable like that.
In the show, Anne has never, once, said "I love you" outright to Ann, but I think that
"don't hurt me. I am not as strong as you think I am ... well i am, obviously but.... sometimes I am not" is as good as an I love you, and then some.
