my recent book haul... i am sooo behind on my yearly reading goal, i think mostly bc of my Issues (reading tires my eyes something FIERCE lately ik i need slightly better glasses but ive been putting off replacing them bc im dumb) and bc im mostly reading Theory which is. i love it. but its sometimes hard to make myself read Theory.

anyways i did finish a book today so yay and yippie. i was very happy to find a scuffed copy of rendezvous with rama, i read a little bit of it online and i wanted to get a physical copy but i also didnt want to pay for like. those ugly SF masterworks yellow reprints copy GFHIFGH im rly happy i found a cool used copy!!! the nabokov book is pale fire and i believe its the last nabokov novel i havent read yet.... which is . scary!!!!!!

just finished my first book of 2026 and i thought it would be a good time to make that top 9 books i read in 2025 post. top 9 bc 9 pictures look better in a tumblr post than 10. no specific order but i did give ballard his own row FHIFGH

and in terms of fumbles... i cant say i read anything that was Bad... i did finish some clunkers that i wish i hadnt have picked up in the first place... but there werent that many of them and even those brought something New into my life so you know. a solid year overall

im reading a dark lesbian coming-of-age story set in the world of competitive horse riding and i keep thinking every single drug theyre about to take is like. horse drug . (narrator voice) this girl fed me ivermectin

I also love how much cum piss and blood are in Clive barkers stories, the monsters and demons are always shitting and pissing when they’re dying and human protagonists get hard ons when they’re grabbing ancient powerful artifacts like YEAH!! your pussy would clench if you grabbed an enchanted sword !!!!!! Why is nobody writing about that !!!!

on a whim started reading ‘the house on the borderland’ by william hope hodgerson (1908) and its making me a bit crazy bc i’ve heard about it only this year somehow but this literally is quite possibly the first cosmic horror story in the existence and i can tell this had been a massive influence on lovecraft which in return means this book sponsored like half of all horror today …. but the thing that i can’t parse is that yes it has scary, unsettling moments but it also marries them with spots of tenderness

also the formatting of the book is basically a reprint of a manuscript with editors notes so guess what i think this guy invented house of leaves too !!!!! this quote by terry pratchett is very on point !

im trying to get my monthly dose of theory in and im reading powers of horror and im honeslty in such awe of julia kristeva's writing style and of course the wonderful transaltion by leon s. roudiez, obviously i dont know french so technically i dont know if this is a good translation but just reading this text it feels very faithful to the style of the writer, especially the rhythm and cadence.
