reactionaryhater asked: “Hey. I just saw that you're going to have surgery. I wish I could say something to encourage you, but really, the best advice is to let go of your need for self-determination; go with the flow. They do this every day. The chance of a clot or complication is vanishingly small. Bring music; hospitals are noisy. Bring something you can do while keeping your arms low. Don't let them remove the catheter before your bladder wakes up :) If you're healthy, you can be home in 3 to 4 days. Good luck.”
‘The chance of a clot or complication is vanishingly small’ - That just made me feel so, so relaxed :) Thank you! x
Side note: What ELSE should I bring in to hospital? iPod check, I doubt they’d let me take in my phone, but ehh…?
You're welcome, and I'm happy to see it helped you (it's true; they have to tell you there is a chance of horrible things happening, even if those things almost never happen). The common laundry list includes ID, insurance card, important medical information (medications/allergies), toothbrush, maybe soaps if you use anything special, movies (if they will provide a TV) or reading material, and a pen and paper is a good idea as well. A robe if you own one, though you won't be changing clothes much. And try to get some sleep. I know you don't want to, but it will help a bit.
