Literacy Network in Dane County
My blog post today is going to be about the literacy network and their mission.
The mission of the literacy network is to teach reading, writing and speaking skills to adults and families doing this enables them to achieve financial independence, good health and greater involvement in community life. Don’t believe me, visit their website ( http://www.litnetwork.org/) it says so right there. To add to the excitement of this amazing program it’s also free of charge, and who doesn’t like free stuff. This program of course is available in Madison, Wisconsin, perks of living here. English is a main language in the United States, and in other to get jobs it is highly required, so this program is a stepping stone for getting the job that you need. Basically reading, writing and speaking English is an everyday thing in the life of adults in America, it makes understanding everything so much easier, having this skills helps the adults better achieve goals specific to their needs: to read to their children or help with homework, to fill out a job application, to understand finances, or speak with a doctor about a health concern.
Literacy Network serves primarily low income adults and families in need of literacy services by offering programs specifically tailored to the needs, goals, and different learning styles of the individual students:
•One-to-one Tutoring for ESL and Basic Literacy
•Family Literacy and English in the Schools
•Integrated English and Civics Education
Knowing English is part of what makes people achieve greater in life in the US, knowing that the literacy network helps in that is amazing. What would be even greater is helping people achieve their goals and you can do that by volunteering. Helping someone learn how to read has been one of the most enriching experiences of my life...This work has helped me be a better human being." - Literacy Network Tutor
You can do that by going to their website( http://www.litnetwork.org/) and clicking on FOR VOLUNTEERS, IT WOULD BE A GREAT OPPORTUNITY AND YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS THAT.
