ughhhhhhhhghghghghhhhh...I hate it when people use "empathy/sympathy" as a synonym for "decency"
cause it implies that to be decent to another being, you have to have empathy and/or sympathy for that being. which is like...no?? sure, it could help, as understanding is a common path towards respect and therefore: towards acting decent.
but still, you don't HAVE to understand someone to not treat them horribly. you don't even have to RESPECT someone to not treat them horribly!
understanding and empathy means nothing when mistreatment and hatred stays the same.
