“Umm, how about pop rocks?” Niko said, thumbing through a few packs on the convenience store rack. “I haven’t seen these for a minute. We’ll have to get a six pack of sodas and watch’em fizz up like old times,”
Glancing over at his sister, his wide grin faltered a bit. “Shit, I don’t even know if that’s ok with...this goin on,” He motioned to her stomach before placing a hand on against it. There wasn’t a bump or pudge or anything really, but he knew it was there. It was this weird foreign thing that they had made and he wasn’t sure of its fate and yet he felt like he needed to protect it at the moment. Realizing he had progressed to rubbing it, Niko pulled back just as an elderly woman shuffled past them.
“Aren’t ya the cutest things. How long ya been together?”
Niko wanted to pause and take a look over his shoulder. Surely she wasn’t talking to them. But no one knew them here, he made sure of that. So she must. Which is why, without any misstep, he flashed her a brilliant smile and snaked an arm around Elle’s waist. “Well thank you, Ma’am. It’s been what, sweet heart?” Now he pauses, mumbling a few numbers to feign the math. “I can’t ever remember what date to start from. First date? Or first ‘date’. What would you say?”
