I found the foundation of this spell in a fun little spell book called The Spells Bible by Ann-Marie Gallagher, and I fell in love with the concept. I did some research on the meanings of different objects and concepts, changed some words, added some steps, and moved a few details around.
The Litha Talisman Spell:
The purpose of this spell is to capture the positive energy of the sun in a little charm talisman, and to wear the charm to get you through to the winter solstice. I prefer to wear the talisman until the next summer solstice, then I bury the old one and exchange it for a new one. This, naturally, is up to you. However long you decide to wear the talisman, you wear it every day to help you get through the darker days.
Your usual circle materials, for this ritual is to be done during your greater Litha ritual.
A red candle, a yellow candle, and a white candle all of the same height. These are used to symbolize the sun, traditional Litha colors, and to help provide light during the spell.
A copper disk. This is your talisman. You should use copper because it is one of the softer more malleable metals, and it is used to draw away negative energies. You can find copper disks specifically for jewelry at some craft stores. You can also take an old penny and hammer it out.
An iron nail. This is what you will use to engrave your talisman during the ritual. Again, most older nails are made of iron, so they are not difficult to find. Iron has a grounding property within it, so it is perfect for finalizing your charm.
Cord or a chain, to tie your necklace on.
This spell is cast in the early morning on Litha. You are to capture the rising suns energy within your talisman as the sun first begins to rise. Look up what time the sunrise is where you are and be sure to be out there at least half hour to an hour before hand.
Open your circle the way you normally would, taking a minute to remember what Litha is and what it means. When you are ready to begin your spell light the three candles.
By the light of the candles carve the image of a sun into your talisman. Try to incorporate eight rays, one for every spoke on the wheel of the year. Design your sun as you see fit, however is easy for you.
Hold the talisman in your hand and visualize the rising sun warming your body and casting a protective light around you. Take some time to meditate, channeling your own energy and the energy of the sun. When you feel you are finished, place your talisman in a safe place, preferably where you can see the sun rising.
Light your tea light and place it next to your talisman. Watch as the rising sun hits your talisman, and as the tea light burns down. When you feel ready stand tall, with your arms towards the sky, and say
Ignite the fire within this talisman
Within my body, mind, and soul
Even when the land turns baron
The darker days wonât take their toll
Thread the talisman with your cord and tie it securely around your neck. Wear your talisman until the winter solstice, or until the following Litha. Bury your talisman in a sacred space when the time comes.
