What if the adventures of Little Bot were a movie? I thought it would be cool to make a movie poster style illustration. This print will be available at my book signing Thursday night at @gallerynucleus in Alhambra CA. I'll bring the leftovers to #CTNx this weekend. Hope to see you there!

WEEK EIGHT REFLECTION.

Little Bot and Sparrow (2016) by Jake Parker served to be striking during my search using #picturebooks,though the soft and gentle tone of the illustrations, as well as the meaning and messages addressed in the text. The story explores the journey of Little Bot after he is thrown into the garbage, and Sparrow taking him under her wing. It addresses the concept of true friendship, and encapsulates the joys of having a life-long friendship.

Other books I came across during my search include The Memory Tree (2013) by Britta Teckentrup, which addresses the death of loved ones, and the positive memories left behind that comfort the individuals experiencing grief as a result of the loss. The Bear and the Piano (2015) by David Litchfield is a story about a bear who finds a piano in the middle of the forest. Unfamiliar with the instrument, the bear gradually learns to play the piano, and discovers its beautiful sounds. The illustrations of this text are also quite beautiful. 

Ada Twist, Scientist (2016) by Andrea Beaty is another book I encountered during my search. The book explores the curiosity of a young girl who uses science to understand and derive meaning from her world, and strives to empower women to engage in the learning of science. This book is amongst a collection of others written by Andrea Beaty, including Iggy Peck, Architect (2010), which I have previously encountered, as well as Rosie Revere, Engineer (2013). 

I also came across books which contained wonderful illustrations, including Lizbeth Lou got a Rock in her Shoe (2016) by Troy Howell, which follows the journey of a rock after it was kicked out of the shoe of a girl; as well as Counting With Barefoot Critters (2016) by Teagan White, which assists students in the learning of numbers in a delightful manner. 

During this research activity, I found the way in which these social media platforms were employed by authors and illustrators to be very interesting, particularly by illustrators. I found that many posts were regarding the promotion of an author and illustrator’s books, release dates, and illustrations; as well as striving to encapsulate the interests of individuals through the portrayal of their journey in reaching their desired product or text.

Prompt 7

I was amazed at how many different things came up when I searched picture books. There were heaps of references to lots of different picture books and images from picture books with comments and reflections. I was interested in the different pictures that came up, especially from illustrators, explaining their drawings. 

There was also links that promoted new books coming out. 

Little bot and Sparrow was a book that I found where the author shared the idea for her book and how it came about.
