August is here and has brought some heavy autumn previous with late night fog, earlier sunsets and a light scent of autumn in the air as well as the first early red and yellow leaves on the ground. It feels exciting as there is so much to prepare now before our next winter here in our new cozy home in the valley. This autumn I really want to prepare the garden for the next growing season as I now feel like I know much better what to find where in the garden, which spots are more sunny and exposed as opposed to other more shady areas and which mistakes not to make again. I want to prepare some more veggie and flower beds, get a better understanding of how to compost and if there is time I want to build a simple greenhouse after the model of @theeverydaygreenhouse if there is no snow on the ground yet when I can start building. Only after I had taken all of these photos and the sun had disappeared behind the horizon did I notice that I had some honeydew from the flowers smeared all over the lense. I started to get worried that it would have made them images less sharp, but instead they added this really beautiful blur and spread of the light to the photos, almost like a filter. This way the light looks exactly as it did in real life as well, which I sometimes find hard to get onto a photo, especially when the light is so soft and gentle. Even though time has again passed more quickly than I can realize I still remember the evening of these photos as if it was yesterday. Tord and I took a walk so I could take some photos in the meadows and Yeti decided to follow us. It was the longest he had ever walked with us and while I was taking pictures he and Tord were playing on the little forest road we walked on. When I was done, he didn't want to go home, but we got chased by mosquitoes so I ended up having to catch and carry him, which he only very reluctantly accepted. One time when I bent down to him my camera, that I had on my back like a shoulder bag, fell onto my arm, creating a bruise that was still visible 2 weeks later, but eventually after many chases and runs, a lot of carrying Yeti and countless mosquitobites we finally made it home. The second week of my holiday has been amazing and Tord and I were so social this weekend! We were invited for dinner on Friday and had a blast and yesterday his extended family came over for a barbecue and houseviewing. It was wonderful to see everyone and both Tord and I felt that today was the perfect day to rest after the many wonderful social activities, continue a bit with our building projects and start planning for the upcoming week. The day has been very stormy and cold or "Nordic" as I jokingly called it in a conversation with Tord, but the evening right now is gorgeous. The winds have calmed and I am building in the garden, Tord is preparing things in the garage and the cats are running around, hunting and playing hide and seek in the tall grass. The nights have become noticeably darker already and I felt a slight scent of autumn in the cold winds. Flowering fields are so beautiful 😍 can't get enough of their views! 🌿 Tord and I are currently rewatching "How I met your mother", when we are taking breaks from our different projects. If you are a die-hard fan and don't want to read my criticism of the show, this is your chance to stop reading 😅 It used to be my favourite show and I have seen the whole of it several times. Once I remember I was at a friend's house and he was watching it on TV and got understandably quite annoyed with me because I could with a very high precision predict anything that anyone would say in the next 5 seconds. I loved this show after it got me through the last years of high school and I even found the end very satisfying, even though a lot of fans didn't like it. But rewatching it now, I realize what a huge d*ck Ted really is. We are so far almost at the end of season 1 and he has already broken several hearts of women only to satisfy his own needs for attention, all justified by his longing for whatever he deems "true love" to be while he is actually always very much in love with Robin, thus emotionally unavailable for any other women. I can't believe that I used to see him as the good guy and was totally on board with his "romantic" storytelling. He has not aged well if you ask me. Did you ever watch how I met your mother? Today was the most beautiful sunny day. It was hot and warm before the weather is going to get cold and rainy from tomorrow onwards. So Tord and I started to cut the grass before it would get too long during the days we can't cut it. As it was hot we took some swims in the river and it was so wonderful, that we never ended up going on the trips we had planned. Instead we had some coffee at home, took another swim in the lake, sat and talked in the sun and continued our garden work until dinner. Arctic raspberries have been growing everywhere on the fields and I am trying to keep an eye out for any berries developing after the gorgeous bloom we had just a couple of weeks ago. As of yesterday I am finally myself again, have my energy and voice back and felt so good, I could even run out to catch the evening fog and sunset light that made yesterday's evening so much more magical. Thank you everyone who wished me a speedy recovery! 🥰 The landscape is filled now with so many different shades of green and while I usually start to feel the first hints of autumn in July, this year everything is still thriving and exploding with life. Since the onset of spring was so late this year every bloom is slightly delayed and in contrast to other years I am actually living in the now. Amongst the flowers 🤍 This summer is really incredible. While I am still wondering how many of my plants will make it to bloom and give me a harvest this year, the first flowers are already way out of bloom, the bushes are full with berries just waiting for more sun and water in order to ripen and I am getting the first seeds from the flowers that bloomed earlier in the spring. Today I am finally starting to feel better, but I am still not my usual self and I have basically lost my voice. My throat is still so sore it feels like a rusty chainsaw working it's way through whenever I try to speak and the sounds I am able to get out hardly resemble the range of emotion that I am used to expressing and sound very stale and harsh instead. I am drinking tea like my life depends on it, rest my body and voice and keep listening to podcasts/editing my photos in order to make the time pass until I'll finally be better again. 0/10 recommendation points for being sick as a holiday activity. Classical holiday thing to do? Getting sick within the first week. Both yesterday and today I have been down with a cold, drinking lots of tea and water and resting on the couch and in bed. Not at all the holiday activities I have been looking forward to, but oh well, the body needs what it needs. Being restricted to lying down and sitting up has given me lots of time though to plan my next steps in the garden - I want to build a wooden deck behind the house - and also finally edit some of the photos I have been taking in June. There were so many magical nights and I am looking forward to seeing what July has in check for us! 🤩 Even though we don't have all parts available yet for the anti mosquito machine, there are so many less mosquitoes indoors now since the temperatures declined. I hope we can get the remaining things we need tomorrow to even decline the mosquito population in our garden.
