I'm a tianyue believer but honestly I am surprised that not a lot of people ship Yue Qingyuan and Liu Qingge despite that being such an obvious "pair the spares" option. I have to assume that Yue Qingyuan's Sad Pining Ex-Wife vibes are just that powerful.

The divergence point for this au would be the spiritual caves, whether shen jiu or shen yuan is the one to enter really doesn't impact the plot at all, it just would be even sadder if it was shen yuan...
So sqq enters the caves, he finds lqg, he tries to help him. Only he does not survive the attempt. Lqg is torn. On one hand sqq is the worst, an absolute ass, always antagonizing and scheming, on the other hand I do think there was a reason lqg had such strong emotional reactions to sqq. Then there is also the fact that lqg completely lost control and killed a fellow peak lord, and the sect leaders favorite to boot. These are a lot of intense, conflicting feelings for a man who has the emotional intelligence of a pumpkin.
While this is going on the peak is STILL being invaded, just this time without the fortunate interference of a peak lord. Let's just say it ends much more bloody and destructive...
Yqy returns to absolute mayhem and also, oh no, the love of his life is dead. These damn caves really are the source of all his troubles.
Now yqy is the one with the intense feelings, his love is dead, the killer is right there but also kind of not at fault, the peak is in shambles, numerous disciples slaughtered, and to top it all of, as the sect leader he has to keep it together to manage the whole mess.
