After missing out on seeing Top Gun last year, finally got a chance to see Top Gun: Maverick with a live orchestra at the @royalalberthall with a couple of friends this afternoon.

Was such an amazing experience!

A bit gutted @tomcruise wasn't there this time, but would 100% recommend 💙

Performance audiovisual (Live Cinema) Sonido estéreo, dos canales de video, dos performers, dibujos, archivo de video y animaciones manipuladas en vivo. São Paulo (2013)

// Experimentos sobre el cuerpo, el tiempo y la ropa, poéticas entre fotogramas, repeticiones, texturas generadas por la velocidad de la percepción.

Este proyecto comenzó a desarrollarse en el 2012 en Porto Alegre como una serie de experimentos animados sobre las acciones de vestirse y desvestirse. Ha sido desarrollado de forma discontinua desde entonces, apoyado por algunos espacios académicos, como la disciplina Caleidoscopio Digital de la Escuela de Comunicación y Arte de la Universidad de São Paulo (2013).

La presentación que tuvimos fue el primer acercamiento que tuve con el público, ya habíamos hecho algunas improvisaciones aunque un poco pequeñas con el grupo dentro del salón pero definitivamente tener a espectadores que no sabía si eran invitados nuestros, si eran alumnos de otras clases de la Academia o eran trabajadores, me puso un poco nerviosa, creo que me preocupaba mucho en lo que pudieran pensar estas personas, si les iba  a gustar, si escucharían un momento y se irían, si les aburriría y casi siempre fueron pensamientos malos hahahah. Lo sorprendente fue que la gente se quedo, tampoco se las razones pero no parecían estar pasándola mal y si lo estaban, no lo demostraron lo cual me tranquilizo en cierto punto de la pieza.

Aunque habíamos hecho un ensayo previo días antes, la presentación quedo totalmente diferente a como la habíamos planeado, me dí cuenta de que necesitábamos un algo que definiera el orden en que nos pondríamos en ese momento, una especia de partitura y no porque no me refiero tanto al sonido sino a la forma en que nos acomodamos. Esperaba que fuera una presentación en círculo y fue lineal, creo que eso de alguna manera fue lo más grave, lo imaginaba de otra manera solamente pero como buena improvisación que fue nos acoplamos a los cambios y al momento.

Otro detalle es que no esperábamos a otra persona en la presentación y también uno de los instrumentos que fue el globo no reaccionó de la manera que imaginamos, sin embargo creo que incluso en este lo pudimos incluso mejorar en el acto.

Honestamente es una experiencia que no me encanta, claro he aprendido de ella y fue diferente, me gusto de cierta manera pero creo que cuando entre al diplomado no era tanto esto lo que me imaginaba haciendo pero creo que he tomado algunos aspectos buenos de esto.

inspired by @nextwavecinema’s live tweets during beyoncé’s coachella performance, i think it’s clear, especially in a post-lemonade, post-self-titled visual album reality, that we should more seriously discuss + evaluate beyoncé’s legitimate influence on live performance + live cinema, a developing cinematic + storytelling technique often associated with francis ford coppola. 

beyoncé’s coachella performance truly was.... phenomenal. 105 minutes of time-suspended theatrics which not only flew by in such a ferocious and enthrallingly overwhelming manner, but a live spectacle which somehow increased in energy + passion + visually artistic and sonic fury and technology the longer it went on, before concluding with fan-friendly, familiar, but still somehow the most ideal of cameos from the family who have been on this journey with beyoncé, helping to mold it, from the beginning. 

with every new live performance, beyoncé continues to develop + progress her narrative by discovering new, creative ways to retell it. these most recent performances aren’t just skits or one-offs meant to be digested separately from one another, but are an extension, a reimagination to what has already been presented prior. whether it’s by slightly remixing her own songs + accompanying choreography from her most distant or more recent pasts to finding playful, inspiring ways to combine lyrics from one song with another, she forms new poetry from existing emotions and sound bites of her reality as they now relate to her current culture and experience as a black woman, a similar experience shared by her most devoted and loyal of supporters. she’s often praised for her variety and ability to succeed within any genre, but she still knows exactly how to creatively incorporate it all into one recognizable, unmatched sound and visual look. with each new retelling, the story becomes more precise, more mastered, more controlled, which then inevitably allows for more playfulness, a looseness anchored by her own powerful balance. 

beyoncé is undeniably one of the most important living artists + voices of our time, constantly reinventing by perfecting. bow down, bitches.
