Mouth forms || Live2D rigging ||
hello hello everyone!! Since I've finished the art and working on rigging I thought along the way I could show off what I do, so I'll make posts going over rigging and things I do to make my models :3 in case anyone desires explanations or help
This one will be going over how I do the mouth forms
The mouth in particular I make a make two lips, upper lip line with skin, then a lower lip (you can add flesh teeth ontop if you so choose) top main teeth, with fangs same to the bottom, then back molars to make it more 3 dimensional for rigging! Then tongue, inside of the mouth and back of the throat.
Art is shown below on the right for easier seeing
Once imported I make the parameters directly on the art layer without using deformers, the lips are controlled by a deform path to make the editing of the lips easier to control! Also deform paths mostly primarily work on the art layer in live2d directly!
Then we get to the specifics of mouth forms so I'll explain simply
Mouth form- is tracking your smile
Mouth open- how far you open your mouth
The left number on the showcase bellow is my mouth form, and the right is my mouth open
Of course you want 1, 1 to be an open mouthed smile
I have noticed -1 (mouth form) in vtube studio is where it places the tracking for when you make an O with your mouth, so you'd want your more triangular/circular mouth there, then have the more open mouth transition on -.5 and 0
That will making the mouth tracking look more natural
Some people will add a small tongue click in the mouth open a parameter (.3) to seem like the character is making a L sound when speaking, although this is personal preference
Each frame has to be made individually (each point shown intersecting is one frame) the program will do the in-betweens... You will have to edit each piece (the teeth, to tongue and back of the mouth to lips) to make it track properly
I also now adays add jaw movement to make it seem like it's speaking then a little bit of a nose push up (scrunch) when the mouth is fully open (this is just my personal preference)
Since you've edited everything on the art layers later on you can add more 3d effect with deformers on top of the art layers but that is another explanation I'll go into later!
Thank you all so much for reading and I hope this will help someone I'll probably continue to post about model work while I make this new model!
