There are times I feel like I sound like a broken record. But, there are things I will say over and over. One is: If you are the smartest person in the room; find a new room.
St. Louis got to simulcast John C. Maxwell’s Live2Lead conference. I got to be in an impressive room. A room full of eagles, as John Burns would say. Folks that soar. Folks that make sure to take others with them. Last night I tried to come up with the words to explain the day. It is really hard to explain if you weren’t there.
Chris Hogan blew my mind. To have someone who seemed to speak my language. I was speechless. People first. Leaders must listen, and ask the right questions. The questions that actually invest in people. How are you? What are you working on? How can I help? And actually, listen to the answer. Listen and don’t be afraid to use that info so you know how to pray for them. It is so important to me to lead with a servant’s heart. I know I can’t walk in my purpose without doing so.
Deanna Ley asked if anyone got emotional about a particular part of the day. I raised my hand pretty unapologetically. To a packed room, she said, “Of course you did, Alison.” That hit me. I am definitely known for getting emotional about so much. And it has always bothered me.
Then Marcus Buckingham of the Strengths Finder quiz got emotional. Then John Maxwell broke down on stage. If these powerhouses can be vulnerable, so can I. And I am going to own that.
I was beyond humbled to get to shoot this event. Be poured into as I participated. Be able to bring someone who has asked to be mentored. It was a great day. And as today was less than perfect (until I saw my girls). I was reminded when Rachel Hollis said leaders rarely have two good days in a row. And after a truly fantastic one, I was challenged, and I came out on top.
The Live2Lead dream team put on an incredible event, and I am already anticipating next year! As I was sorting through the pictures, I found this one.
It is truly these three in a nutshell. Joh Burns, Chris Ley, and Deanna Ley. They are impacting our community in a way that no one person will ever fully know. And I am so grateful to be part of their ripple.
You will want to follow Live2Lead St. Louis. Do not miss out next year!
And stay tuned here. More pictures to come!
