i remember once i read an avalance fic that was word for word a skimmons fic from about five years prior, and i recognised it pretty quickly (it was a very famous skimmons fic) and theyd just changed around the names for avalance. and i could see it wasn't the same creator but i thought it might be the same person on a new account, so i commented, and they deleted the fic almost immediatly. and i think i remember that one bcos its the same reason ppl steal fanart and post it without credit, compile gifsets when they didn't make the gifs and don't give credit: its plagarism to fit in. plagarism to participate in fandom and to get attention. and i'll always wonder if this has become more common since fandom became so much more about creating-as-participating (like on twitter, insta and tiktok) and not on tumblr in which participation doesn't require creation. or maybe people have always wanted a shortcut to fandom attention y'know
