This is the ugly side of legal marijuana in Michigan. For me and my neighbors it has destroyed our lives and forced us out of our homes.
Let it be said and remembered that Groove Construction and Breedsville Associates, LLC, never gave a fuck about the people whose lives they’ve destroyed and the village government cared only about the money and nothing about our quality of life, our property values or our mental and physical health.
While complaints to MDEQ and the Van Buren County Soil and Water boards were responded to, the construction company didn’t give a fuck and carried on as if nothing had happened. Spewing ton after ton after ton of agrochencial toxic dust over our homes, jolting us out of bed at 7AM six or seven days a week, permeating the air with the incessant ‘beep beep beep’ of construction vehicles so that we can’t even open a window on a nice day or sleep in during the lockdown. Racing their cars and trucks up a narrow village alley, barely ever caring about the stop sign literally 30′ from where children play.
And the pounding of double 18-wheeler trucks shedding their cargo of the aforementioned dust over everything, puffing billowing clouds of it across the west side of the village. Complaints? We were laughed at.
And their armed guards shining their headlights into our windows at night and the raucous conversations that take place at midnight, often along with a musical accompaniment... we complain and we get bupkis. In fact, we’re treated as the aggressors.
“The village is really going to get going,” said village President, Steven Rogusta, who happens to live on the other side of town, far away from this mega-project that we were promised would not happen, while rubbing his fingers together like some contemptible Scrooge. “But what about our quality of life?” Nothing. He shook his head and walked away because he doesn’t give a fuck about anyone but himself.
None of that means anything to anyone other than those of us who have to find other places to spend our time because we can’t spend it in our own homes.
Fuck them. Fuck every fucking one of them and fuck their parents for not raising them as decent human beings.
Look to a longer, way more detailed article about this issue in the near future. But if you see their product, boycott the fuck out of it until we’re adequately compensated for our losses and sincerely apologized to.
