We hosted our very first Liv Local event this past Friday! It was AMAZING!! Almost 250 people from our families, friends (old and new) attended. The kids were playing and interacting, dancing and enjoying life! No one was on their phones, people made new friends and new connections! There was such a great turnout we were able to unlock the crowd perks and offer free popcorn, cotton candy, peanuts, hot dogs, nachos and dessert! Then we watched The Sandlot under the stars. What a beautiful first event and only 1 of many more to come! If you aren’t a part of the Liv community yet, you’re missing out! This is about as local as you can get. It all starts with story of how we (my Mom and I) made it to Maine. In the 1970s my Mom (in photo with me) was backpacking with friends (yes she was a proud hippie) through Acadia and Baxter State Park. She fell in love. "This is where I am supposed to be" she proclaimed. It took her 30 years but she finally made it in 2005. When my brother and I were younger my mom would take us up to Maine for our summer vacations. Camden was one of all of our favorite places to visit. Camden is where my mom ended up moving and Rockport is now where she calls home. When she moved to Camden she would drive to and walk along Beauchamp Point. She would pass one of her favorite places in Camden Aldermere Farm with its black and white (or as we call them oreo cookie) cows. I was living in New York City at the time and frequently came to visit my mom's new home. Not soon after I fell in love with the state (in this case both physical and the state of mind) of Maine and moved here in 2010. Rockport is now where I call home and Aldermere farm is just steps away from where I live. These cows are loved, beautifully taken care of, and then butchered locally. I am so thankful each mean that is made from their sacrifice. It took me a while to get over the fact that I was eating the cattle that mom talked to and waved at each morning but it is all part of the experience of living in the moment and seeing things as they really are. Thanks mom for your inspiration, fortitude, and love!
